It is very possible that the president will not obtain a join authorization to bomb Syria; if he chooses to go ahead and attack anyway, Obama will incite a constitutional crisis—the first time in history that a president has decided to go to war against the declared wishes of Congress. The public and the courts will adjudicate the legality of that act, and it would be contentious.
So the corner that Obama has painted himself into is now inescapable. Defying Congress will put the country into a Watergate/Monicagate mess. Not doing anything will confirm the administration’s impotence and only enhance Russia, Iran, Assad, China, Islamists, and almost anyone else who does not like the U.S. Doing something small, with or without congressional approval, will be looked upon as a cynical waste of human lives to restore Obama’s credibility, the sort of craven, immoral political act that a younger Obama made a career out of mocking. Doing something big will invite public and global outrage if only moderately successful, and doom the Obama presidency if unsuccessful.
How did Obama get himself into this mess? It was bound to happen, given his past habits. All we are seeing now is the melodramatic fulfillment of vero possumus, lowering the rising seas, faux Corinthian columns, hope and change, the bows, the Cairo speech, and the audacity of hope. Hubris does earn Nemesis.
1) His inclination is to damn straw men, blame others for his self-inflicted errors, and spike the ball when he should keep quiet and become modest (cf. the bin Laden raid). So in Syria we heard the same old, same old: A host of bad guys, here and abroad, wants to do nothing.

Spot on, VDH. He lays out some very reasonable paths for 0bama(which, in his arrogance and petulance, will likely ignore.) And the last few sentences should be heeded by all.

"Psychodrama" .... good way to describe it. Rush was talking 'pathic' and 'psychopathic' the other day. It's catching on and not necessarily from folks who listen to Rush or read VDH ... I'm hearing it more and more on talk radio from very angry and serious Americans calling in, that Obungle is a mental head case.
There is no Constitutional crisis. Is fully within Congressional powers to pull funding. The President can order a strike Congress can simply choose not to fund it. The problem is that Congress has been reluctant to use such powers. Congressional backbone crisis? Yes. Constitutional crisis? Hardly.
I’m thinking we’re Wagging The Dog here but haven’t figured out why yet. Time will tell.
The one thing that worries me, is his out of control ego, and arrogance. Putin is personally embarrassing him on the world stage, and now other leaders are starting to join in. He loves talking about boots on necks, and whose ass to kick, but now we have the world laughing at him. We have all seen how thin his skin is, and I wonder where this will lead?

Competence has never been Zero’s strong suit.
Putin can do the world and the US a favor by embarrassing Obama more. The true Obama needs to be revealed to the half of the country that adores him. Perhaps only a foreigner like Putin can or will do it.

Looks like Obama’s incompetence, laziness, and passing-the buck-attitude have finally caught up to him so bad, even his Media buddies can’t spin it this time.

Americans getting killed won’t be a consideration or bother him one bit .... and for anyone who thinks this is harsh, look at Benghazi .... 4 Americans dead and he’s apparently not concerned, nor could he be bothered to stick around to find out the details .... playing cards with Reggie, then took off for Vegas the next day. Per the grieving relatives, he was a cold fish with them. GW would have been right there, not slept all night, and I think AQ would still be licking their wounds if this had happened on his watch.
I believe Obama has said in response to questioning “I’M the PRESIDENT” and he will wield his ‘power’ and authority to suit himself, not for the greater good of the country. This goes hand in hand with his “I WON” mentality. One thing about Bush, perhaps even Bubba Clinton* ... I didn’t worry about them destroying the country deliberately or starting WWIII because of ego, but with Obama, I do.
*Bill/Hillary are awful, but they are greedy first and foremost and I don’t think they’d kill the goose that is laying the golden eggs. Look at what Obungle has done - got America on her knees domestically and trying hard to put that boot on her neck.

Through outright fabrication and miss-representation has black youths engaged in a race war on white and hispanics.
