Weapons charges have been filed against three men caught handling real guns while filming of a rap video on the South Side, according to police.

The three were among eight people arrested by police around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 7400 block of South Eggleston Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood. The other five do not face felony charges.

Police said the group was filming a rap music video in the backyard of a home when officers made the arrests.

You know... if they’d just pass more gun laws this kind of thing wouldn’t happen. /sarc

Ya know, some folks can’t afford to just go out and
buy a fake gun to make a video...
Just using real life, realism get down with it.

Disclaimer, No thugs or pit bulls were harmed during
the filming of this video...

Actually, even if they used realistic-looking fake guns, in Chicago, they still could have been arrested. They have a “lookalike” ordinance here, where any toy or replica gun needs to have a bright orange piece of plastic stuck on the end of the barrel, or it is just as illegal as a real gun.

I’m sure there is a way around that, if you got a permit or something, but getting permits wouldn’t be very gangsta.

I think the DA may not like this case very much unless they were shooting said guns. The charges do not sound like they were.

It’s probably easier (and cheaper) to get real guns than prop guns.

It will get plea bargained down to some lesser charge when it gets to court. That’s pretty much standard practice for most non-violent crimes in Cook County, just to clear the court dockets.

I looked up the statute and the there is an exception for people engaged in legal commerce. I would think making a video is legal commerce so the two non-felons may have an out. The guy who is a felon, was charged with something even less. So I wonder if the whole thing will not just go away.

Next time they should use pop-tarts, or pencils.

The article does not say but I would wager the handgun was stolen.

Who is taking bets?
