In Florida, the Broward County sheriff's office said that XXXTentacion, 20, was shot while leaving a motor sports dealership in Deerfield Beach, about 40 miles (64 km) north of Miami. The rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was later pronounced dead, the sheriff's department said. "The adult male victim has been confirmed as 20 year old Jahseh Onfroy, aka rapper #XXXTentacion," the sheriff's department said in a posting on Twitter....

During African-American Music Appreciation Month, we celebrate the tremendous achievements and contributions of African-American musicians. The musical ingenuity of talented African American artists laid the foundation for so many recognizable and cherished genres of music, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues, jazz, gospel, hip hop, and rap. Throughout our history, African-American music has demonstrated its power to elicit comfort, healing, happiness, conviction, and inspiration — as well as its ability to unite people of all backgrounds. Today, it resonates in jazz quartets, rock and roll guitar solos, gospel choirs, and hip hop beats. The expression of these artistic and...

Some things that came out of the conversation: He wants to have open dialog He wants to speak how he feels freely (Ebro believes he should finish his thought) Did not add context to tweets because, "maybe people will understand when I put the music out" via Ebro Kanye wants to "deprogram people" to have people think differently than we thought before." Likes Candace Owens because "she's challenging conventional black thought" Feels no one showed love for him when he was addicted to opioids and in hospital Feels like he has been demonized - as a society we demonize people...

CHICAGO – A Chicago teenager named Tyshaun Granger was reportedly fired from his job at McDonalds for allegedly placing his “mixtape” in children’s Happy Meal’s, rather than the usual toy. Tyshaun apparently included his rap mixtape in the happy meals within a paper disc holder. On the mixtapes was printed the title of the project; “Tales Of A Real N*gga” was printed on the discs with a sharpie marker. “I bought my son a happy meal and inside came a mysterious cd” says Sarah Platt, “I, like any other parent, would assume the cd was for children. I played the...

Lately, whenever we’ve wound up covering stories out of Spain, they’ve been related to the Catalan independence movement. Today, however, the lens swings away from that region and back to Madrid. There was a concert held there recently by various artists including a rap musician named Josep Miquel Arenas, better known as Valtonyc. The show was informally considered a “farewell performance” because, barring success in a last minute appeal, Arenas is heading off to prison for a few years. His crime? He insulted the king, among other things. (WaPo) The headliner tonight was Josep Miquel Arenas, 24, the artist known...

Chinese rap and hip hop seemed poised to break out after a wildly popular singing show brought mainstream legitimacy to a musical style that had struggled to find its voice in China. But an abrupt official backlash against hip hop culture has tamed the swagger of artists who fear that Chinese rap's development, like a once-promising homegrown rock-and-roll movement, will be nipped in the bud by Communist politics.

Everything you need to know about the Super Bowl can be found in the rap hit “Dreams and Nightmares,” by Meek Mill. But which more truthfully could be named after a line in the song: "The Murder Game" or "All I Know Is Murder." Everything about how far professional football has fallen and how the NFL celebrates the obscene, the vulgar, the dangerous, and the foolish will be on full display as that song blares as the Eagles take the field. This song that the Eagle players have chosen is about guns, drugs, money, bitches, and murder, over and over...

Hard rock band Avenged Sevenfold are up for a “Best Rock Song” Grammy on Sunday night for “The Stage” off of their 2016 album of the same name. But while it’s their first ever Grammy nomination, they’ll be sitting out the ceremony, says frontman M. Shadows, mainly because their category won’t be televised. Texting to radio personality Eddie Trunk, singer M. Shadows says the trip to New York City for the Grammy Awards would be a “waste of time and money” for the band, which is currently on tour with Breaking Benjamin and Bullet For My Valentine. Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock reportedly researched hotels near Fenway Park in the run up to the deadliest shooting in recent American history. No hotel nearby the park commands a clear view of the Fenway stands. Officials briefed on the investigation's details spoke to reporters on the condition of anonymity Thursday, revealing Paddock researched Boston and booked a hotel room in Chicago overlooking Grant Park when the Lollapalooza music festival would have been going on. Boston police on Thursday issued a statement saying the department is aware Paddock likely researched the city and is working with federal authorities.

Las Vegas mass killer Stephen Paddock booked two hotel rooms overlooking the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago this summer, according to a report Thursday. Paddock specifically requested both rooms to have a sweeping view of Grant Park — about 500 yards away — but never showed up, sources told TMZ. Among the 400,000 people who packed the venue in the Windy City was Malia Obama, 19, the former president’s older daughter.

What do the Las Vegas massacre, the Charleston church shooting and last weekend’s Islamist stabbing of two Frenchwomen have in common? The murderers’ sense of inadequate recognition, and the primal lure of the ecstasy of killing. Acts of deadly terror are in fashion, the default position for a wide range of frustrated egotists. From lone-wolf Islamists enabled by faith, through punk racists, to a high-stakes gambler who craved casino perks — slum-dweller, misfit or property owner — these terrorists shared a sense that their societies wouldn’t give them their due. Too much has been made of the measure of wealth...

If Drake looks smug and Dave Grohl looks a little stricken in the photos above, there's a good reason: Nielsen tracking indicates hip-hop and R&B have officially become the most dominant form of popular music in the United States for the first time ever. As HuffPo reports, the reason for hip-hop's supremacy—25 percent of the retail music market over 23 percent for rock—may not be a big surprise. The reason for hip-hop and R&B overtaking rock is simple: online streaming. When it comes to album sales, rock continues to dominate, claiming 43 percent of physical album sales and 37 percent...
