Russia says Western attack on Syria would be ‘catastrophic’

MOSCOW — A Western military attack on Syria will only create more problems in the region, lead to more bloodshed and result in the same sort of “catastrophe” as previous Western interventions in Iraq and Libya, Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said Monday.

“Hysteria is growing and confrontation is incited,” Lavrov said in what he portrayed as an emergency press conference. He said the United States and its European allies have condemned the regime of Bashar al-Assad without any evidence that it actually used chemical weapons in an assault on a Damascus suburb on Aug. 21.

China's president aims to clean up Communist Party from within while also silencing external critics. Russia condemns ‘hysteria’ over Syria Will Englund AUG 26 As Assad regime’s stalwart ally, Moscow says the West is ready to act before evidence is in hand.

Turkey, Britain and France all indicated on Monday that they would back the Obama administration if it decides to take action against Syria in response to the alleged attack, even without a United Nations mandate.

Russia has been a stalwart ally of Assad, refusing to allow United Nations action to intervene in Syria’s conflict. On Monday, the newspaper Izvestia published an interview with Assad in which he warned the West against military intervention and noted that Russia continues to sell arms to Damascus under the terms of existing contracts.

Now who are you gpoing to believe?

A Russian or John F’in Kerry—band aid hero of Vietnam, Traitor who met with Viet Cong in Paris, worked with Jane Fonda Tossed away his medals. Murdered a wounded Teen aged Viet Cong soldier in cold blood, testified against American Soldiers and called them terrorists.

Doesn’t take me long to decide. I believe the Russian.

It’s a very sad state of affairs. The credibility of the US government has fallen so low that its Russian rivals seem more credible, and its respect for the rights of its citizens has deteriorated to such extent that whistleblowers take asylum in Russia.

Barry will do anything to wag the dog and take focus off of Banghazi and all the other scandals this regime is trying to make go away. He is using Kerry as a front so that anything that comes of this he can be “hands off”. Stay tuned folks.

They’re right. Chemical weapons are being used by BOTH sides. We have no horse in this race. Let them sort it out, and may God have mercy on innocents Syria.

I don’t think he’ll go to war anyway. It would destroy Democrats in the Midterms. Something like 80% of the country is opposed.

Have you ever known Obama to worry about anything but elections? He let our diplomats die while he planned a Vegas fundraiser for crying out loud. Its all about furthering his agenda. Sure, he’d love to help the Jihadis, but it might be bridge too far. Goal #1 is turning America into a Marxist utopia.

I doubt Israel is too worried about Syria right now. Countries usually aren’t very good at fighting civil wars and international wars at the same time.

Putin is pragmatic. He would solve problems here. Cut the parasites off the dole and cut bureaucrats to the bone with their bloated salaries/benefits. He would be a painful choice but he would make some very good choices which I would cheer and some horrific choices which I would abhor.

It is just as likely that the incident in question was perpetrated by the “rebels.” They are moslems and as such are capable of any tactic to advance their cause against infidels. To them anyone who calls himself Moslem but adheres to a different sect- Assad is an Alawite- is an infidel just as is a nonbeliever or worse, he is an apostate.

What would radically and rapidly escalated oil prices do to the mid terms? assuming, of course, that the Democrats don’t make use of their capacity to control the outcomes of the electronic voting machines. I wouldn’t vote for Putin. Putin always acts to advance the interests of Russia. Always, and that’s a compliment. He may be an autocrat, but you have to give him credit.

Hillary! and the RINOs act to advance the interests of the US ruling elites, which coincide with the interests of Americans more often than the Russians.

However, if the Obama Admin says one thing and the Putin Admin says another, it’s more likely that the Putin version of events is correct ... unless, of course, it’s about a Russian abuse of individual rights.

It’s World War One; there’s thirteen million killed; it was all because the militaries of both alliances believed they were so highly attuned to one another’s movements and dispositions, they could predict one another’s intentions, but all their theories were based on the last war. And the world and technology had changed, and those lessons were no longer valid, but it was all they knew, so the orders went out, couldn’t be rescinded. And your man in the field, his family at home, they couldn’t even tell you the reasons why their lives were being destroyed.

Putin always acts against the USA's interests whether it is in Russia's interest or not.

It was not in Russia's interests to exterminate and ethnically cleanse the Orthodox Christian people of Georgia, he did it only to punish them for sending troops to Iraq.

It's not in Russia's interest to help the Ayatollahs build a nuclear bomb, but it sure bothers the USA and our allies, so Putin is all for it.

Nationalizing Russia's energy sector is not in the interests of the Russian people, but it's the only way Putin can use Russian oil and gas as political weapons of intimidation and blackmail against America's allies.

Destroying the political freedom of the Russian people is not in their interest at all, but it is the only way Putin can stay in power and accomplish his anti-American goals.

Putin has been playing used car salesman to Iran for years, selling them stuff falling apart and getting paid good money. While at the same time doing close espionage and some low-level sabotage.

You can thank the Russians for the fact that Iran hasn’t had fullscale nuke production for years.

What is also known is that Putin and Netanyahu are playing an extremely close game. When Putin has released new air defense missiles, for example, he has given the remote-destruct codes to Netanyahu. That has happened at least a couple of times.

Another item: Stuxnet. This was an Israeli product, althouugh Obama has tried to brag it onto himself. But the fact is, the people planting it into Iranian computers seem to have been the Russians. The number two in the series, which Obama also has tried to take credit for but which he cannot tell anything about, was also an Israeli product. Its task - which it did flawlessly - was to map the location of all the Pak nuclear warheads.

We're supposed to thank Putin for Iran not having a nuke, when Putin is the only reason they even have a nuclear program at all? Gee Putin thanks a lot.

Netanyahu already had to strike a convoy of Russian missiles in Syria and had to threaten Putin that he would do it again if he sent any more to his genocidal socialist ally Assad.

Bingo. It took Russians a couple years to teach Chicoms how to have a bomb back to 1950s. Just think about it, full production cycle, training, equipment and technology. Now look at what was China back to 1950s and compare it to Iran. It was an ox and a cart and Iran is rather technologically advanced nation. If Russians really wanted or at least stayed aside Iran could have a bomb a decade ago.

Putin’s interest is only power. Look at Russian economy today. Russia have best agricultural land in the world but imports 70% of the food from other countries. Same with electronics, cars, heavy machinery and more. Aircraft industry practically dead. Military production going down too. Good leader would do everything to elevate his own country out of poverty but nothing is done. The only reason that Russia is afloat is natural resources.
