NJ GOP Senate Hopeful Backs Rand Paul in Feud with Christie

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has endorsed fellow Republican Steve Lonegan in his bid for the U.S. Senate — but on Saturday, Lonegan threw his support to Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul in his contentious war of words with the outspoken governor.

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Up with Steve Kornacki," Lonegan praised Christie as a "strong leader," but said he disagrees with the state executive on issues including recovery funds for Hurricane Sandy.

"I disagree with Gov. Christie and President Obama on Hurricane Sandy funding," he said. "I thought it was over the top. I thought it was too much money."

Lonegan also revealed he's "more on the side" of Paul in the ongoing feud between the pair.

"I am deeply concerned about a government that really should be protecting us from our enemies rather than spying on our friends and our neighbors and our families," he said. "The NSA has overreached its powers."

Earlier this week, Christie said he was "proud" to have the former Americans for Prosperity state director as the GOP nominee, and vowed: "We’ll help him raise money," Politico reported.

But Paul has already said he'd help raise money for Lonegan's Senate race.

Paul told the National Review Online on Thursday he'd met with Lonegan, who says he'd like Paul to be his mentor if elected to the Senate on Oct. 16.

I hope not. If Booker wins, he’ll definetly run for president. And he just might win.

This race is huge. Hopefully many conservative superpacs will jump in and will tear Booker apart.

By chance...caught the Steve Lonegan interview with Steve Kornacki on MSNBC!!! Was impressed by Lonegan!!! He mopped up the floor commenting to the four morons on MSNBC!!! I just hope he continues this tact aggressively......and that the useless Republican leadership at the RNC pours in the bucks to finance his campaign, because, while he might not beat Obamabot, Cory Booker, Lonegan will at least tear him apart politically. Rubio, Rand, Lee, Cruz, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, West, Scott, etc., get to NJ and stir up a decent turnout, and possibly winning vote for Steve Lonegan. NJ voters, wake up!!!

Rand Paul’s immigration speech

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]

Paul does not get it.

First, I can tell you living here in San Antonio — the illegals are hardly living in the shadows.

Second, I can tell you that 90% or better of the illegals have zero interest in either citizenship or “assimilation.” There are places here in San Antonio where it is EXPECTED that you know how to speak Spanish if you want to do business (shades of Miami).

Third, what attracts them is one of two things — or both: One, an opportunity to work and send money back home where they can by a nice ranch for a comparative song; and Two, FREE STUFF!

Until we stop dishing out the FREE STUFF, they will come....

If they find that becoming “citizens” is the path of least resistance to their goals, then they will, of course, become “citizens.”

Please keep in mind that any Mexican who becomes an American “citizen” retains his full (including absentee voting) rights as a Mexican.

Whereas in the past, an immigrant (say, from Sweden or Poland) who became a US citizen was assumed to be willing to transfer his primary national loyalties to his new country, that hardly needs to be the case with Mexicans here near the border. They are close to home and they are easily able to keep and nurture their connections with the country of their birth.
