A voting error was just fixed in New Jersey and GOP candidate Jack Ciattarelli is back up in the race after briefly trailing to incumbent Democratic Governor Phil Murphy. “The early vote was double-counted in Hudson County,” National Political Correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC Steve Kornacki reported. “It has now been fixed, bringing Murphy’s total down by 10,732 and Ciattarelli’s by 2,842. Ciattarelli goes back up in the statewide tally: Ciattarelli (R): 1,177,803 (49.6%) Murphy (D) 1,177,108 (49.6%).” As reported at Becker News earlier, there have been other anomalies in the New Jersey governor’s race. A disturbing phenomenon was...

VIDEO Is it the Road To 270 in 2020? Yes! It's the Road to 270 in 2016? Yes! Actually you can be forgiven for confusing Steve Kornoacki's Roads To 270 with each other since they are virtually identical in their projection of the battleground states. Even Kornacki's mannerisms and giddy vocal intonations are identical. In fact, about the only way you can tell the difference between the two projections, one made on August 6, 2020 and the other on August 10, 2016 is that one has the name of Joe Biden on it and the other has the name...
  • Democratic insiders: Bernie could win the nomination

His resiliency in the primary has caught the attention of the party establishment. Suddenly, Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign is being taken seriously. For months the Vermont senator was written off by Democratic Party insiders as a candidate with a committed but ultimately narrow base who was too far left to win the primary. Elizabeth Warren had skyrocketed in the polls and seemed to be leaving him behind in the race to be progressive voters’ standard-bearer in 2020. Story Continued Below But in the past few weeks, something has changed. In private conversations and on social media, Democratic officials, political operatives...
  • ESPN President: ‘Our Fans Do Not Want Us to Cover Politics’

Does it seem you hear a little bit less about political controversies in the sports world than you did a year or two ago? Do you find yourself grumbling at your television, “I just want to enjoy watching the game” less frequently? Today’s Los Angeles Times profiles ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro, who took over running the network in March 2018. Deep in the article: Pitaro has also satisfied ESPN’s more traditional fans by steering commentators away from political discussions on-air and on social media, which heightened during President Trump’s criticism of NFL player protests against social injustice during the playing...
  • Trump got no bounce from Mueller. That leaves him a narrow path to re-election.

For President Donald Trump, it may prove to be the bounce that never comes. On the afternoon of March 24, the news broke that special counsel Robert Mueller had found no collusion between Trump's campaign and the Russians — a moment for which the president and his allies had been waiting almost two years. But a week later, Trump's average approval rating, according to the Real Clear Politics tracker, had climbed a grand total of one-tenth of one percentage point — to 43.2 percent from 43.1 percent. You could argue, of course, that Americans are reserving judgment. The complete Mueller...
  • On MSNBC, Keith Ellison Refuses to Say If Democrats Would Repeal Middle-Class Tax Cuts

Democrat representative and DNC vice chairman Keith Ellison could be forgiven if he thought he would be tossed softball questions by MSNBC's Steve Kornacki (substituting on Kasie DC) on Sunday night. However, even on MSNBC liberals will occasionally (but rarely) be hit with hardballs. Such was the case when Kornacki kept asking Ellison over and over if the Democrats would support the repeal of middle class tax cuts in the current law passed by Congress last December. Ellison kept trying to dodge the question by attempting to only talk about repealing the tax cuts for the rich but, unfortunately for him,...
  • NBC's Steve Kornacki: Amazing How Thin Clinton/Trump Margin Is, Despite Trump's Problems

MSNBC host Steve Kornacki discusses the latest 2016 election polls showing Clinton and Trump in a dead heat in several key battleground states with the hosts of NBC's Today Show: "It’s amazing," Kornacki said. "If you take the 2012 electoral map: Obama versus Romney, and kept it the same... If you can flip Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida, you’re the next president. For all of the trouble [Trump has] had, you’ve got them dead even in Ohio and Pennsylvania. [Polls showing him down in] Florida is bad news for him." "[We just saw several] great weeks for Hillary Clinton, terrible weeks...

Freudian slip? While talking about Bill Cosby’s appearance in a Pennsylvania courtroom over sex assault allegations, MSNBC anchor Steve Kornacki mistakenly said “Bill Clinton.” “We’re gonna begin with that breaking news we told you about at the top. Right now, out of Pennsylvania, Bill Clinton is set to arrive at a suburban — excuse me, Bill Cosby is set to arrive at a suburban Philadelphia courthouse any moment now for a key hearing in his criminal sex assault case.”

  • MSNBC Calls Hillary's Comments on Emails and Trump 'Feisty and Funny'

How about "angry and lame?" After playing a clip of Hillary in Iowa yesterday in which she addressed the email scandal and took a shot at Donald Trump, MSNBC's Richard Wolffe, sitting in for Steve Kornacki, called her comments "feisty and funny." Have a look at judge for yourself. There's a difference between feisty and flat-out angry. As for funny, Rodney Dangerfield can rest in peace. Hillary's delivery was wooden. The funniest thing she said was a bit of unintentional humor. Speaking of the email scandal, Clinton claimed "I won't play politics with the national security." Right. Protecting her personal...

On Saturday’s “Up with Steve Kornacki” on MSNBC, former Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius reacted to GOP presidential hopeful John Kasich’s comments from the debate on Medicaid where he said: You should know that President Reagan expanded Medicaid three or four times. Secondly, I had an opportunity to bring resources back to Ohio. To do what? To treat the mentally ill. Ten thousand of them sit in our prisons. It costs $22,500 a year to keep them in prison. I would rather get them their medication so they can lead a decent life.

Former SC Democratic party chair Dick Harpootlian told MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki Sunday Vice President Joe Biden’s consideration of a presidential run actually gives Democrats the best chance of retaining the White House in 2016. Harpootlian said Hillary Clinton’s track record will cause her and the Democrats to “die a death of a thousand cuts,” yet Biden is “an inspirational figure” that voters can rally around. HARPOOTLIAN: I think Hillary comes into the race, as she did in ’08 with all kinds of baggage… There’s going to be distractions, we saw just this week with the Wall Street Journal about payments...

I have a sneaky feeling that MSNBC political correspondent Kasie Hunt isn't a registered Republican. Even so, there's little doubt that at least for now Marco Rubio is winning the Kasie Hunt primary. In successive appearances on the Up with Steve Kornacki and Melissa Harris-Perry shows this morning, Hunt made clear that Rubio was her standout in the Republican field assembled this weekend in New Hampshire. On "Up" Hunt called Rubio "the strongest candidate in telling a story . . . really somebody to watch." A bit later on MH-P, Hunt hailed Rubio as the person who "stood out to...
  • Barney's Blithering Misunderstanding of Business: 'Your Being There Means Somebody Else' Won't Be

Two days ago I ordered online a used copy of Milton & Rose Friedman's classic "Free to Choose," hoping a liberal loved one would be willing to read it. That doesn't look like it's going to happen, so now I'm tempted to send the book to Barney Frank—since it's apparent that, like many liberals, he doesn't understand the most basic notions of how free markets work. On Steve Kornacki's MSNBC show today, Frank described business creators as being "given privileges." Barney then added this mind-boggler: "there's only a limited amount of space, there's only a limited amount of businesses. Your...

Was he serious? Some of his fellow panelists chuckled, but it wasn't obvious that conservative commentator Ben Domenech was kidding when on today's Up With Steve Kornacki he said that "the only person I think who could beat Hillary Clinton is Michelle Obama." Domenech's comment came during a segment on the subject of who might jump into the race should Hillary decide not to run. The mere fact that there was such a segment suggests that the controversy over Hillary's email might not be the much ado "about nothing" that some claim. View the video here.
  • Kornacki Clams Up as Guest Calls Michael Brown Death 'Murder'

Dial MSNBC for Murder . . . The Lean Forward network is the place to go if that's the way you want to hear the death of Michael Brown described. On August 12th, NB'S Ken Shepherd noted that Chris Hayes didn't utter a peep of protest when a Missouri state senator called Brown's death an "execution-style" killing. Three days later on MSNBC, Luke Russert called Brown's death "murder" before catching himself. It's happened again. On today's Up With Steve Kornacki, guest L. Joy Williams pointedly called the Brown death "murder." Did Kornacki challenge his guest's assertion in any way? Of...
  • Dumbest Defense Yet of Bergdahl Deal?

Mark Jacobson may have set a new standard for dumb defenses of the Bergdahl deal. Appearing on MSNBC's Up With Steve Kornacki today, scholar and Afghanistan veteran Jacobson suggested that opposition to the Bergdahl deal arises out of the soldier's religion and politics. He made a mind-boggling analogy: "My parents freaked out when I went to Afghanistan both times. If I had been captured. Do I want someone to say this nice Jewish kid over in Afghanistan, a little bit liberal, not really sure if we're going to go get him? Absolutely not." What?? If a nice liberal Jewish kid...

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has endorsed fellow Republican Steve Lonegan in his bid for the U.S. Senate — but on Saturday, Lonegan threw his support to Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul in his contentious war of words with the outspoken governor. During an appearance on MSNBC's "Up with Steve Kornacki," Lonegan praised Christie as a "strong leader," but said he disagrees with the state executive on issues including recovery funds for Hurricane Sandy. "I disagree with Gov. Christie and President Obama on Hurricane Sandy funding," he said. "I thought it was over the top. I thought it was too much...

Do you oppose President Obama's gun control proposals? Well then, you must not be against gun violence. So suggested a guest this morning on the new MSNBC show, Up With Steve Kornacki. Leah Gunn Barrett [insert wisecrack on middle name here], of "New Yorkers Against Gun Violence," was trying to explain away why Second Amendment advocates do so well politically. According to her, gun "enthusiasts" are single-issue voters with good grassroots organization. In contrast, "people who are against gun violence" aren't as well organized. View the video here.
