It was one of the millions of Trayvons who roam the streets each night. There will be more.

My understanding is that lots of rookies are sent in there - that if they can hack a patrol in the South Bronx they can deal with any other standard assignment, and that the ones who distinguish themselves can be identified for more specialized assignments.

He said the shooting officer, who is white, is 26; his partner, who is black, is 27. Shaaliver was black.

See! When the shooter is white, the NYT has NO problems reporting the race of everyone involved.
That's OK.
However, when they shooter is black, such details are swept under the rug.
That is not OK. It's PC crap. Censorship.
It would be better to report the news as it is, as accurately and with as many details as possible.
This is not an entirely bad article despite its obvious bias.

That may be a good idea, dependent on how many mistakes are made. Not that this was one; I believe this officer proved he has what it takes though there will certainly be tough times for him ahead, both in dealing with having taken a human life and in dealing with the charges of murder from uninformed family members and others who are without clue one.

Many Americans do not understand the meaning of that word. Murder is an unlawful killing. This incident comes nowhere near meeting that standard.

I know when I first read that the thought entered my mind that it was possibly an unjustified shooting. Read the article and you know the police shot an armed gang member who was in the process of attempting to murder someone. They very well could have saved a life. But the NY Times has its agenda.
