Just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, the pop of gunshots cut through the air. Two rookie police officers barely a month out of the Police Academy, and now on foot patrol in the Bronx hurried toward the sound.
They headed east on East 151st Street to find a chase unfolding, one man running down the middle of the street, another following with a handgun. The officers ordered the second figure to drop his gun. Instead, another shot rang out.
One of the officers fired a single shot. The bullet struck the gunman in his lower left jaw, killing him.

Shaaliver Douse? Quawana Barcene? What language makes up these names? I thought Pig Latin was complicated. It gets stranger & stranger every day.
The Police won’t venture into some ghettos now,it will just get worse.
All the more reason the race agitation industry should be forced to acknowledge it.
Aunt Quwana is pathetically ignorant. He's was not a child, he had a gun and was trying to kill someone and was too stupid to realize a police officer would shoot him if he didn't obey their orders.
I was thinking kind of high for center-mass in an urban environment, even at 3AM.
He was named 14 years ago,I wonder what weird names the kids are getting today.
The NYTimes actually has a policy about using the formal “Mr.”
Excellent marksmanship or lucky (unlucky for somebody) shot
He pulled it. Right handed cop aiming at center of mass jerked it up and towards his dominant hand.
I think it is Blatin...Black Latin.

Yes, this is very much like the Trayvon Martin case wherein both dead black "youths" were killed while attempting to murder someone. But I doubt his Aunt Quwana sees it that way.
The Nine.
Maybe the youths liked to play baseball in between their other rec activity of extreme paintball.
How do the Times writers know it was a youth gang, and not a youth club?
Attempted murder at age 14..
If I had a son, he would look like this kid too” Pres Obama.
Don’t pick on Latin that way!
His mother said he was straightening out. Which was an admission that he needed to be. It’s a shame her son is dead. But that’s the risk one assumes when he takes a gun in hand and attempts to kill someone else.
Veralidaine, Aqualina, Aqualeena, Aqualyna, Trasean, Chipolaux (and a host of others!)
Indeed. Is the second “a” silent? Do you pronounce them differently, each one part of a different syllable, like “cooperate”? Is he one of the many French-African Afraican-Americans who would tell us that the ending “er” should be pronounced like the last part of “Bouvier”? I weep at my own ignorance of other cultures.
They’re called “The Eight” now.
