Just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, the pop of gunshots cut through the air. Two rookie police officers barely a month out of the Police Academy, and now on foot patrol in the Bronx hurried toward the sound.
They headed east on East 151st Street to find a chase unfolding, one man running down the middle of the street, another following with a handgun. The officers ordered the second figure to drop his gun. Instead, another shot rang out.
One of the officers fired a single shot. The bullet struck the gunman in his lower left jaw, killing him.

Sure to stir up the natives.
Excellent marksmanship or lucky (unlucky for somebody) shot? Any hoodies involved? Like the council person(?) from chitown said, the cops are killing all these young men for no reason.
A life of crime cut short ...
Nice to see that it was a happy ending.
Oh, no! Not another innocent child gunned down in cold blood!
Justice for Shaa-liver!

Teenager Armed Gang Member Shot and Killed by an Officer on Foot Patrol in the Bronx

Hunted down like a rabid dog in the streets, no less.
Why does the newspaper article keep referring to the 14 yr old as-”Mr. Douse”.
That seems kind of silly to me.
What an imcomplete story, - - what was the skittle-count??
Ok, at least NYPD teaches their cops gun control.
Oh, did the killed thug have a CCW permit?
Bronx redevelopment is about to get a kickstart... maybe
This scenario will be repeated increasingly as the social fabric continues to tear. Police duty will pass lumberjack duty in risk to life.
Only the good Lord would know about such hypothetical questions; the comments seem to read like the lad was bearing an empty gun. Unless that means empty due to firing the one and only shot in it. Still you see a gun pointed at you and hear a shot and can’t clearly connect them, you might think that’s the source of the gunfire. (Though at night the muzzle blaze ought to be visible.) A bad thing to get involved with, empty gun or not.
Every male in a NYT story is accorded a ‘Mister’ in their reports.
No payday for Al Not-So-Sharpton on this one: they have VIDEO of “Mr. Douse” [NYT] doing the shooting that caught their attention.
