WASHINGTON - The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to continue the collection of hundreds of millions of Americans' phone records in the fight against terrorism.
The chamber rejected a measure to end the program's authority. The vote was 217-205 on Wednesday.
Republican Rep. Justin Amash had challenged the program as an indiscriminate collection of phone records. His measure, if approved by the full House and Senate and signed by the president, would have ended the program's statutory authority.
The White House, national security experts in Congress and the Republican establishment had lobbied hard against Amash's effort.
Libertarian-leaning conservatives and some liberal Democrats had supported Amash's effort.
The vote was unlikely to settle the debate over privacy rights and government efforts to thwart terrorism
I thought the Kenyan told us that the war on terror was over! Who is lying here?!
OK - maybe a dozen didn’t vote
But a lot are on record now.
Can’t walk away from that. They just said they don’t care about the 4th amendment.
You got that right !
Final roll call still hasn't been published, but The Guardian is reporting that the measure generally found more support among Democrats than Republicans, although the difference was slight. Current Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) voted no.
If anyone still doubts that the republican party is in bed with and supports the democrat/fascists please speak up.
pathetic every republican who voted no has shown himself to be a rino scum
The NSA has damaging information on many politicians. It will take a revolution to dislodge them now.
Told ya. There isn’t a chance in hades of NSA data gathering being defunded. The gop wing of the uniparty loves the police state aspects of this data gathering while the ‘rat wing loves the blackmail aspects.
Just more kabuki theater.
“If anyone still doubts that the republican party is in bed with and supports the democrat/fascists please speak up.”
Just give me access to the database and a simple ‘rm *.*’ should do it ...
“pathetic every republican who voted no has shown himself to be a rino scum”
These are not “rinos.” They are the substance of the gop wing of the uniparty.
From the root.
Big secret. They've been shoving the 4th amendment up our butts for years.
They know no one is going to do squat. There are no party lines when it comes to shredding the Constitution.
I would say more, but then a swat team from some obscure federal agency would be bashing in my door and shooting the dog.
The republic is dead. All hail Caesar.
Here’s the list:
The Republican Party is just Democrat light. There is no political party left to support.
“They just said they dont care about the 4th.
I’ll save you the concern: they don’t care about any of the other 9 Amendments in the bill of rights, either.
So being unconstitutional does not mean anything if its a law they want. But if the voters put a law in that they don’t like then its important.
Uh, we do not have the rule of law, we have dictators.
Here are the votes.
GOPe leaders Boehner and Cantor voted NO.
Any politician that voted for this is either a traitor, or a crook afraid of what the NSA knows. Every single one of them need to be thrown out of Office.
You know, I need to get a dog, just to slow um down some as they come in the door.
LOOK A DOG, SHOOT IT!
Primary every one of the Big Brother lovers. Our freedom is far more threatened by our government than by terrorists.
So you were against this amendment?
I am a little disappointed in the vote but think we don’t have all of the information available to our Reps. This bill was rather a blunt instrument and perhaps that is why it did not prevail. That said, there is much wrong with the program, at least as much as we know about it. Also, funded or not, that does not mean it will pass Constitutional muster.

Ted Poe. Well, I don’t care if a monkey runs against him, I’m voting NO to Ted Poe now. Traitor.
Or spending either apparently. If the Conservatives in the House can't even stop this, then there is no hope of stopping amnesty or ObamaCare. God help us.
Cain't wouldn't be prudent.
I’m never voting for a Republican again.
THERE IS NO REASON TO DO IT.
...CAN IT COME TOO SOON?
The terrorists have won.
Our phone calls recorded.
Our emails recorded.
Long lines at airports.
Everybody, even the old and handicapped must remove shoes.
Bloated bureaucracy to fight terrorism costing Billions.
You can’t stop terrorism in spite of all of above.
Example: Boston Marathon bombing.
Most effective way to stop terrorism: Annihilate the leadership in country of origin, such as destruction of Taliban in Afghanistan where the terrorism of 911 was initiated, and supported. But we have no Dubya in office, we have Zero in White House.
Do I have this switched around? Did the aye indicate a vote to end the program???
I believe so
They "won" a long time ago. Patriot Act, creation of homeland security, ignoring FISA because it was an old law, I could go on. Some are just noticing now because the current clown in the white house has a D next to his name. But don't worry, someone with an R next to his name will get back in there soon enough and we can all go back to barking "why do you hate america?!" at anyone denouncing these policies.
Paul Ryan(WI) No
Why is Bachmann’s name on both For and against on that list?
Thanks! I take that back about Poe. He’s got my vote (if votes really matter anymore).
“...Any politician that voted for this is either a traitor, or a crook afraid of what the NSA knows. Every single one of them need to be thrown out of Office....”
NOW, we can tell who NSA/Odongo has the dirt on. IF they voted for this, they’re dirty and need to be voted out of office. Until that happens, we have a one-party (communist) system in this country. Odongo rules supreme. They know it, we know it. It’s now only the “unwashed masses” that still believe they live in a free country. Maybe someday they’ll wake up and realize what’s really going on.
