Vacuum Tube Company Is Building A 3-Mile Hyperloop-Like Transport System

Hyperloop transportation — referred to ... as a "cross between a Concorde, a railgun, and an air hockey table" — is a super fast tubular transport system with the ability to theoretically send someone from New York to L.A. in 30 minutes.

Utilizing vacuum-sealed tubes, six-person capsules could be propelled up to speeds of 4,000 miles per hour. All while only feeling the G-forces similar to a car ride.

Colorado-based company, ET3, is planning to build and test its own version of such a system, Yahoo reports, though they are calling it "Evacuated Tube Transport." ET3 will build a three-mile-long version to test by the end of 2013.

With prototypes already constructed, ET3's pioneering foray into Evacuated Tube Transportation could quickly move the new travel system from science fiction dream into a feasible reality.

ET3 has released a video detailing their system and how it will work, which you can watch below.

Now I know where the expression ‘pipe dream’ comes from.

A chunk of ice will sublimate, (outgas), at normal temperatures, in a vacuum, but very slowly, (think comet tail).

A mental picture of a capsule of crony capitalist 1%ers hitting a lump of ice at 4,000 mph...

That's funny. I don't care who you are. Even better if it's a Congressional committee riding their own boondoggle.

Shortest route on the whole system.

Now featuring an extra 32.2 ft/s2 of linear acceleration!

In case of an accident the goo can be cleaned up with a wet/dry Shop Vac.

V^2/R is the force of acceleration for uniform speed in a circle. If you go 4000 miles per hour in a circle of 3 miles you will experience about 250 G’s of force. Clearly a person is not going to ride this at full speed!

12ax7s - the fun part is finding a matched set!

Those were the days...

THIS is a vacuum tube...

As the proud owner of a 100 watt Marshall, the title of this thread really confused me.

Let me guess....Rossi’s E-cat is the power source?

No? Somehow, propelling someting to 4000 mph (and back to 0) sounds like a lot of energy required.

Yes, think of the possibilities a terrorist could see, about the effects of a small bomb laid against the outside of that tube, anywhere along its length.

Yes, think of the possibilities a terrorist could see, about the effects of a small bomb laid against the outside of a bus.

Yes, think of the possibilities a terrorist could see, about the effects of a small bomb laid against the outside of a train.

Yes, think of the possibilities a terrorist could see, about the effects of a small bomb laid against the outside of a crowded restaurant.

Yes, think of the possibilities a terrorist could see, about the effects of a small bomb laid hidden in a trashcan at a theme park.

Yes, think of the possibilities a terrorist could see, about the effects of a small bomb laid detonated in Time Square.

Good Lord, be a man and don't let the terrorists cause you to spend your life in fear of what they might do. You are going to get killed by some idiot who thinks he can drive drunk or some bimbo texting on her phone long before a terrorist is going to kill you.

I see most people talking about the risks for people in this proposed system, so why not start it out as a way to move packages? If they can hit their goal of 30 min from LA to NY, that’s faster than any other transport method. Could be useful for companies like UPS, DHL, etc. to move packages between their major hubs.

>> “Kewel...but why would anyone want to go to either place?”

> Yup. Transporting from sh*t city to sh*t central. Don’t give the illegals any ideas.

Here's why. And the system will handle it:

A lot of my packages look like they've been accelerated up to 4,000 mph and then decelerated back down to 0 mph in the span of a few feet ;-)

It is an interesting idea though. You'd think the Amazon.coms and the like would be interested in it.

Old Hallicrafter
I got hit by the B+ and went sailing 10 feet backwards. Was standing on a piano stool adjusting a loose (unsoldered) speaker wire in the all metal Halli that was on top of the old upright piano. Good thing the old sofa was against the concrete block wall or I would have sailed into that ...
