FANTASY:
Enzi is vastly LESS CONSERVATIVE than Liz Cheney. He’s either a RINO or a near-RINO, depending upon whether you’re grading on a curve.

REALITY:
Enzi won a tight primary for election to the U.S. Senate in 1996 and was re-elected by large margins in 2002 and 2008. Since his election, he has consistently been ranked as one of the most conservative members of the Senate. He has a lifetime ACU rating of 92% and was ranked by National Journal as the sixth-most conservative U.S. Senator in its March 2007 conservative/liberal rankings. On social issues, Enzi is strongly conservative. He opposes all types of abortion and has voted in favor of proposals that would provide restrictions on the procedure for minors, those stationed on military bases, and other groups. He has voted in favor of failed constitutional amendments that suggested banning gay marriage and flag desecration. Enzi also is a strong supporter of gun rights and is ranked very favorably by the National Rifle Association. In April 2013, Senator Enzi was one of forty-six senators to vote against the passing of a bill which would have expanded background checks for all gun buyers. Enzi voted with 40 Republicans and 5 Democrats to stop the passage of the bill. NY Times predicted a 0% chance of Senator Enzi voting Yay on the bil Enzi has voted for the repeal of legislation governing such things as the estate tax and the “marriage penalty.” Enzi is a signer of Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge.
He supports partial privatization of Social Security and has consistently voted against measures to expand Medicare or to enroll more children or lower-class individuals in public health care.
Enzi takes a hard-line view on illegal immigration and has been rated highly by groups that support tighter border controls. He has voted in favor of the construction of a fence along the U.S.-Mexican border and against the implementation of guest worker programs.

So you think THAT guy is a “RINO” — and you want to replace him with a so-called “true conservative” who is a Bush adminstration insider AND whose family led the way to championing gay marriage??
Epic fail.
******************************************************************
I’ve always liked to think for myself and not allow myself to be 100% swayed by a politician’s “ratings” by various organizations. Those ratings can be, and are, “gamed”.

Following the below link is an extract from the ACU ratings for 2012. Enzi finds himself in the company of LINDSEY GRAHAM and JOHN MCCAIN as “ACU Conservatives”. And Enzi is exceeded in the ACU ratings by the recipients of the ACU Defender of Liberty (100% ACU rating) Awards which include conservatives’ good friends MARCO RUBIO and MITCH MCCONNELL.

The “take home” from the ACU ratings? My take home is that they sometimes are far less enlightening than an examination of a politician’s broader record.

http://conservative.org/news/acu-announces-2012-ratings-of-congress/

“...The 2012 ACU Ratings of Congress includes scores for each individual member in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, a description of the votes scored in each Chamber and lists of members receiving special recognition as “Defenders of Liberty,” – those scoring a perfect 100 percent – or “ACU Conservatives” – those scoring 80 percent or higher.

ACU today announced the winners of the “Defender of Liberty” award, given to those members of the Congressional Legislature who were present and cast a vote for each adjudicated roll call and scored 100 percent on the 2012 ACU Ratings of Congress. In the Senate, these members included: Ron Johnson, John Kyl, Mike Lee, MITCH MCCONNELL, Rand Paul, MARCO RUBIO, and Pat Toomey....

The winners of the “ACU Conservative” award – given to those members who scored 80 percent or higher – in the Senate are: John Barrasso, Richard Burr, Dan Coats, Thomas Coburn, Bob Corker, John Cornyn, Mike Crapo, Saxby Chambliss, Jim DeMint, MIKE ENZI, LINDSEY GRAHAM, Orrin Hatch, Jim Inhofe, John Isakson, Mike Johanns, JOHN MCCAIN, Jim Risch, Jeff Sessions and David Vitter.

I live in Wyoming, I’m a 100% solid conservative, and I’ll be supporting Sen. Enzi. This is not a case of an upstart challenging a RINO: it’s a case of a lady whom I otherwise respect letting her name go to her head. She will not win. Why not? Again, because it’s not a case of Enzi being a RINO.

Yes, and Enzi also finds him in the company of JIM DEMINT, JIM INHOFE, JEFF SESSIONS, and DAVID VITTER (all applauded by grassroots conservatives and tea party groups) in those ACU ratings.

ACU ratings don't tell everything, they neither "prove" or disprove someone is a RINO. Going by one organization is not reliable, but we do know Enzi is rated as a great conservative by numerous organizations and is listed along side many Senators that ARE highly respected by grassroot conservatives.

There's no doubt Enzi isn't perfect, though. So do you have ANY evidence that Liz Cheney would legislate "more conservatively" than Enzi, or are we supposed to just assume she would because her last name is "Cheney"? It seems much more foolish to presume someone is conservative because of their last name. (especially since Dick Cheney is hardly the greatest guy in the world to begin with)

>> you could put 20 links and still some won’t get it <<

Yep. Liz Cheney's fan club is insistent that she is the most conservative candidate ever because her last name is "Cheney". Any evidence showing she is to the left to the guy she is running against will be duly ignored.

>> Like I said, if she runs, and campaigns on it, I hear her say it, I'll change my mind. <<

$50 says Lakeshark and the other members of the Liz Cheney fan club will immediately go into damage control and spin mode, telling us "She doesn't *really* mean that. She ONLY said she was for gay marriage on the campaign trail so she wouldn't hurt her sister's feelings. What do you expect her to do?!" blah blah blah

>> the guy you support is simply a milquetoast who HAS NEVER BATTLED FOR CONSERVATISM. Do not want. <<

I'll take a guy who has never battled for conservatism over someone who HAS BATTLED FOR LIBERALISM. You can ignore all the media reports that prove it, if it makes you sleep better at night knowing you're helping to elect someone who applauds the homo takeover of America.

It is time for young blood in the Senate. Liz Cheney is the future. Enzi likes to work behind the scenes. I do not trust politicians that work behind the scenes. Besides I support term limits. Enzi’s time is up.

Has she ever claimed to be a conservative? If you are socially and fiscally anti-conservative, but you are an ultrahawk and you believe that the U.S. should a fleet of drones killing U.S. citizens and noncitizens 24/7, does that make you a conservative?

Dick Cheney used to be good friends and allies with Enzi, but because Enzi was against overuse of drones, now Cheney refuses to talk to him and his hellbent on destroying his career? Cheney think anyone who thinks American have a shred of civil rights is worse than Hitler.

Wyoming is one of the safest Republican seats in the nation.

Every Sen. from a safe Republican seat should be a bomb throwing, firebrand conservative.

Is Sen. Enzi a reliable Republican? Yes.

Is Sen. Enzi a standout conservative, does he carry a conservative message to the country? No.

Does it matter whether a candidate is really a resident of the state? No.

We have nationalized and federalized virtually every aspect of human behavior in America and that is controlled from Washington. A Sen. is no longer a representative of his state but a potential enemy or a potential ally to every citizen throughout the United States. Residency has only become a political weapon which one uses against a candidate in the enemy camp.

Is Liz Cheney a reliable Republican? Yes.

Is Liz Cheney a standout conservative who can carry a conservative message in the entire country?

Clearly, Cheney can carry a conservative message to the entire country. She has demonstrated that capability by her appearances on high prestige talk shows but the question remains open whether she is a committed conservative. She is clearly a hawk but is she also a neocon? In other words, will she farm out foreign policy of America to the service of Israel? Will she support military action in places like Iraq and Afghanistan which go beyond conquering an adversary into nationbuilding?

Conclusion: Sen. Enzi has been a placeholder and we need guerrilla fighters in the Senate. Liz Cheney offers the hope that she might be one and in 16 years Sen. Enzi has demonstrated that he cannot be one.

Support Cheney unless another Ted Cruz pops up in Wyoming.

Because she moved from where she’s lived for decades to try to win the seat?

Sorry, I'll take someone who wants to fight for conservatism any day over that nonsense.

Can we at least agree that there are Republican senators running that are worse then Enzi? So if Cheney wants to carpetbag then why not run against Linday Graham or John Cornyn or Mitch McConnell or Susan Collins?

Thank's but you're beating the Cheney drum enough. And if you want to knock of Enzi and leave true RINOs like Graham and McConnell and Cornyn in the Senate then so be it.

I’m sorry, Nick, but I just don’t know enough. From what I’ve seen of Liz doing the TV appearances she’s always looked pretty good, but who doesn’t when arguing with Juan Williams?

Gonna let Montanans decide. I’m not one of them, and I get a break this next Senate season. I already have two flaming assholes in McQueeg and Flake. :^(

Since you won't even read, I'll quote the article close enough to have to deal with it:

The Times hailed him (Enzi) as “a studious, low-key legislator who worked well with Senator Edward M. Kennedy,” and Enzi probably thinks that’s a compliment.

Good grief, the stupid party rides again, and you're all for it.
