To that I would say "so what". I was born a jerk, that doesn't mean it's good to be a jerk or that my mom should support me being a jerk. ;p
People are born with predisposition to all kinds of mental problems (and addictions).
To the Portmans and Cheneys and countless other families staying on their precious baby/siblings good side and seeing them "happy" overrides every other concern. Portman's son and his son's gay lover are sure to visit every Christmas and bring the kids (when they are born, God help them) , that's all that matters to him and Cheney in their choice to embrace faggotry.
There was this lady freeper who private messaged me this one time after some comment I made to tell me about her gay son and how conservative he was like that was in any way relevant to the specific gay related political issue (that I cannot recall) that I was talking about.
I entirely understand these people's position but I don't much respect it. You can love someone and have a warm family relationship with them without approving of everything they do and on the flip side you can still love your parents/siblings if they don't approve of what YOU do.
My youngest brother got a couple ugly-a$$ tattoos on his legs and like your dad he smokes, I don't approve but I still love him.
Disapproval of a sexual partner is NOT SPECIAL. Millions of mothers HATE the WOMEN their heterosexual sons bring home.
Not to equate faggorty and serious crime but in changing their position on gay issues for personal reasons Dick Cheney and company are the ethical equivalent of a gangbanger's mom who lies to the cops for him.
And then I counter argue with "that would be news to former 'lesbian actress' Anne Heche. Seems Ellen's ex-girlfriend managed to quit cold turkey after the breakup" ;-)
Also, there's a big difference between having urges to act on something, and actually doing it. A lot of ex-smokers will tell you they may have quit smoking, but they will always be drawn to cigarettes and if they have one puff, they'd be hooked again.
If they are ‘born that way’, why do they have to recruit?
Now there's an excellent point. There are millions of examples of straight people being estranged from their family because of the person they're in a relationship with, to the point where the family even disowns their son if he marries so-and-so. Nobody argues they should have to blindly accept whoever their straight relative wants to marry "because it makes them happy". Hell, King Edward VIII had to give up his whole freakin' kingdom because people wouldn't accept him marrying an American divorcee under ANY circumstances. I'd tired of this idiotic argument from gays that straight people can marry whoever wish they and everyone accepts it.
