Paranoia #23: Bad Traffic: Its often said that if the battle over immigration lasts into the fall, the controversial legislation will be held up in a traffic jam of Congressional activity. Heres Ryan Grim and Elise Foley of HuffPo:
There will be scant opportunity for immigration reform in the fall, as a looming government shutdown, the approach of the debt ceiling and the festering sequester will combine to force themselves onto the agenda. In Congress, the fall quickly turns to Thanksgiving recess, which gives way even quicker to the Christmas break. And then its 2014.
Like the former CW that the Obama scandals would slow down the immigration bill,** this assumption may be in need of rethinking. Why? Because while a traffic jam of legislation makes it hard for Congress and the President to focus on any one big issue, it also opens up the possibility for big tradeoffs of one blockbuster item for anotherscary tradeoffs if, like me, you think a) the immigration legislation currently being considered is very bad policy but b) it still might pass and c) Obama really, really wants it to pass.***

It seems that Freepers are always looking for a reason to be negative. I believe, if Carl Cameron is correct, IR is dead in the House.
Another reason to be optimistic: Stephen Moore of the WSJ said that he thought Obamacare could repealed by next year. I wonder where you heard this first?
speak of the devil.... 3:)
I posted this article (short article) because it gives a clear and rational warning that Carl Cameron my be wrong and how that would happen.
I'd prefer to be realistic and keep the pressure on against this possibility. I guess I'm one of those horrible "devils" that doesn't trust the GOP leadership to keep this ridiculous bill from passing. Sorry about that..........
Btw, suggesting Obamacare could be repealed by next year is about as likely as saying I "could" win the lottery.......
“my” should be “may”. Oops.
I agree 100%. I am not opposed to ‘keeping the pressure up’ but I would warn against reading every sensational headline from Politico without delving into the facts.
I have held off criticizing Boehner on these threads, the knee jerk stuff here sometimes amaze me. That doesn't mean I trust him, frankly I really don't. I am simply hoping he has heard the mass of phone calls against this bill, is calculating how to maintain his GOP majority, and has decided killing the bill is his best bet rather than accepting the open borders/amnesty money he might get for the campaign.
” but if we don’t keep the pressure on, the open borders big money is going to walk away with the prize. “
HUGE money, this time around. Even I was surprised by how much money is going out to buy politicians(REPUBLICANS)
I agree, let’s kill the Bill!!!
” Paranoid thoughts for the day......”
Not if they really ARE out to get you! : )
They are..........Let me tell ya, the paranoids are after me................
Really.

Most would say that such a claim is hyperbolic -- buying that many politicians would be prohibitively expensive.
However, one "special interest group" is both a.) vitally interested in this legislation and b.) has more than enough spare cash to stuff every bank account in Congress. Yet, somehow, they are never mentioned in this context.
I refer to the drug cartels. They are as interested in "securing the border" as anybody -- if not moreso. And they've got not only the bucks to spread around, but the knowledge and systems to effectively launder every penny.
If we aren't already suspicious of their involvement, we should be.
” The GOP House members are the ones who are now being targeted, some have sold out, most are holding on (so far). Ongoing pressure to hold them from selling out is our best hope. “
Well written, and thanks for improving my tagline : )
Don't underestimate big business $$$ that want cheap labor. Don't underestimate democrat donors who want cheap voters. Don't underestimate the fear of so called conservatives who think they need to pander to be liked.
” Most would say that such a claim is hyperbolic — buying that many politicians would be prohibitively expensive. “
Not for the Chamber of Commerce, and, say, the Koch brothers(86 billion). They represent hundreds of billions. They can buy anyone who is for sale. Some Republicans are 10 dollar whores. Some, like Rubio & Ryan, will become rich almost overnight. They are expensive whores.
” I refer to the drug cartels. They are as interested in “securing the border” as anybody — if not moreso. And they’ve got not only the bucks to spread around, but the knowledge and systems to effectively launder every penny.”
This, I admit, is an intersting possibility.
” Don’t underestimate big business $$$ that want cheap labor.”
And banks that make big money, loaning to borrowers who have no/weak credit. Can’t make any money on “good credit” borrowers.
And, ironically, they seem not to realize that they could harvest more Hispanic votes by voting against amnesty than voting for it.
There have been three polls now (that I'm aware of) which report that the LEGAL Hispanic community is against any form of amnesty by a two-to-one margin (roughly 60-30).
Were Republicans to take a stand against amnesty in the interest of protecting the employment opportunities and respecting the earned citizenship for LEGAL Hispanics, they would win more votes than pandering to the illegals would ever award them.
