Prosecutor 'Prayed' for George Zimmerman to Testify

(SANFORD, Fla.) -- Florida prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda had "prayed that [George Zimmerman] would have the courage to take the stand," he told ABC News in an exclusive interview on Sunday, adding that Zimmerman's "inconsistent statements" would have made him the prosecution's star witness.

In the interview with the four Florida prosecutors who fought to convict Zimmerman, lead prosecutor de la Rionda said, "I prayed that he would have the courage to take the stand but, as we all well know, he's got the right not to."

"Anytime you put in a defendant's statements and a lot of those are self-serving, then usually a defendant will make the decision not to testify because you've got his story out. We felt it was important to get his story out because there were so many lies," he added.

De la Rionda, who would have cross-examined Zimmerman had he taken the stand, said he would have been interested to see how the former neighborhood watch captain answered several of his questions:

"Why did you assume because [Trayvon] Martin was wearing a hoodie, he was committing a crime? Why did you assume that because he was walking he was doing something improper? Why didn't you identify yourself? Why did you assume he didn't belong in the neighborhood?"

I'd pray that The Bald-Headed Dude would have run that child abuse charge out at the beginning of the trial and that he would have handed over ALL of the exculpatory discovery in a timely fashion as legal ethics (oxymoronic as that term any be) outline.

He's a sleaze-bag.

I don’t think I ever read where Zimmerman made any assumptions, just that it seems suspicious and we was concerned and doing his best to provide info the law. It was Martin that assumed about that creepy @#$ cracker.

Bernie's Prayer list:

1. Please make my hair come back.

2. O Lord, give me a better voice and the ability to control the volume of it.

3.-12. Various other vanities.

13. Oh, and, please make GZ accidentally testify when the judge springs the issue on him early.

It’s a pretty standard prayer from prosecutors. They know defendants are their own worst enemies. Due to multiple statements given under multiple emotional conditions over a prolonged period of time there are always contradictions, and they will add more contradictions on the stand, creates a lot of appearance of guilt. That’s why defense lawyers strongly advise staying off the stand, and any defendant that gets on the stand is probably going to jail.

It’s just incompetence, that’s all.

There are gonna be a lot of these ‘what ifs’ going on....”If only I’d gotten to cross examine that ‘mexi....er, ah....white bastard’ - “If only that pun...er, ah Cherub Saint Trayvon had been better at MMA”. If only...if only if only if only if only.. blah blah blah...

They lost because there weren’t any GED black women like the OJ trial women jurors on that JURY...that’s why!

There was no need for Zimmerman to testify. The prosecution played his entire interview with Hannity. LOL

I can see it now.. Zimmerman testifying, then a prosecutor asking him "Have you ever used the 'N' word?" and the crowd goes 'Oooooooooooohhhhhh.. GUITLY!!!!!'

Neighborhood Watch Captains will only be asked to look for white criminals at night now.. It’ll be as boring as watching grass grow, and break-ins will skyrocket.

Watching what I could of the trial, I couldn’t determine if BDLR had a superficial grasp of the facts, was forced to take on this fiasco, or is simply.... a moron. His post-verdict comments to the media suggest the latter.

If he’s trying to call our Mr. Zimmerman to start making comments (by effectively calling him a coward) I think Mr. Zimmerman is much smarter than that.
