Were witnessing the continuation of a long trend. Girls overtook boys for school exam performance in the 1980s and outnumbered them in universities in the 1990s. There is no reason why the progress should stop at equality: in field after field, women are starting to dominate. In the recession, four out of five British jobs lost were held by men.
And there is, of course, no discrimination. The economy is changing shape in a way that is to mens collective disadvantage. Occupations requiring physical strength are rapidly disappearing; a quarter of manufacturing jobs have vanished in the past 10 years. The recession has simply accelerated the emasculation of the economy.
(A)mong poor families, boys are falling further and further behindand are 30 percent less likely to apply for university than girls. The Labour MP Frank Field has long pointed out how deindustrialization
has robbed these young men of life options.
But what about teenagers not cut out for university, who used to go straight into a trade? They struggle to find a role in society. They may also discover it is far harder to find a wife: study after study shows that men without steady employment are regarded as unsound marital bets.

i’m surprised any of this would be a mystery. after ww2, when some people laid the great sins of the world (the inquisition, slavery, the holocaust) at the feet of the white Christian male, there has been a planned effort to remove his influence in the world.
Ritalin and affirmative action have been pretty successful at this.
just think about any fads of today, diversity, hate crimes, affirmative action, they would all fit into that plan.

You’re right, and it can hardly be called an improvement.
I work in office that has about a 4:1 female to male ratio. The females, regardless of their competence/intelligence, are always the last in and first out; eventually the men caught on, are are right behind them (though at least the men work a full day). Unpaid overtime has become a thing of the past for the men; it is actually very relaxing working “like a girl”.
The turn away from roles requiring manly strength —will that impact, say, Sweden more, or Mali more?

Ok, I hate to tell you this, but, IT WAS WHITE MEN THAT CAUSED THESE THINGS (except slavery was also widely practiced by others).
It was also white men that produced calculus, laws of physics, great art and engineering, movements to stop slavery, inquisition, and the holocaust.
But saying white man is perfect and denying their role in the holocaust, inquisition and slavery is not helpful.
Just as technological improvements, globalization and wage arbitrage has 'attacked' the middle class.
The trend toward busting families, cheapening labor and preventing new competition in western culture countries has run its course. Women are being laid off, too, as further population growth is inhibited.
I worked in a health food store, same ratio.
I was the only guy (besides the owner) Their ‘manager’ made sure all the ladies got paid for a full day if they left early, came in late, etc. Since I didn’t need a full day to finish off my quota I did the same.
“Oh, but you *can’t* leave early. We’ll dock your pay!”
I spoke with the boss showed him that I’d already fulfilled my end of the contract months ahead of time and that I didn’t even need to show up at all and I would still get paid. He quietly told her to stop.

We occasionally have legal presentations for supervisors in which it is stressed that all employees must be treated in the same manner. While it is probably intended to prevent racial bias claims, it leaves managers in a bind with the gender issue. Nobody has said anything to the men, and wouldn’t dare.
The most bizarre thing is that many of the females are American. They aren’t leaving to deal with children or anything important like that; they’re just going to see their pets and watch TV. Oh well, what’s good for the goose...
