Grant them eternal rest oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Such a massive tragedy and that’s taken the lives of too many.
Prayers for the souls of the brave firemen and prayers for the grieving loved ones.
Lord, hear our prayers.
Sorry if my response appeared abrupt. I was typing on my phone.
There is another good book series out about such events. They are written by John N. Maclean the son of Norman. He helped edit his dad’s books in his youth, spent many years as a top Chicago reporter in DC and then in 95 quite to write books on this high risk subject starting with “Fire on the Mountain: The True Story of the South Canyon Fire” which covers the Storm King mountain disaster, as similar event. He has three others as I recall.
I thought your response was perfectly cordial. Pretty good for a phone. I appreciate the information.
The 100 Club of Arizona has already written checks for 15,000 each to each family of those killed in this Hot Shot team. Happened first thing this morning.
Just heard on the news that this was the biggest loss of firefighters lives from a wildfire since 1933.
Just shut up. Please. Im as repelled by him as anyone, but Presidents travel. Get over it. This has zero to do with Obama.
Shame that the only thing some see in this tragedy is a chance to take shots at obbbammma.
I agree. The world does not revolve around Obama. As lousy a President as he is, everything bad that happens is not his fault.
My Brother in Law is devastated at the loss of his friends, but thankfully is alive.
I apologize if I came across insensitive I did not mean it. I do understand how you feel awaiting word if a loved one is alive or not. I was not trying to take a jab directly to the heroes who battling this awful fire nor the situation.
Yes Obama is not at fault. What I try to say since many presidents in the past have made statements of events occurring in our nation that I recall. At least I felt Obama could have send a verbal message stating that all help will be available.
Glad to hear that he is ok and safe
Prayers up for the families of the firefighters.
Too much stock is incorporated in these fire shelters. There is a time when it’s just time to get out. The Captain of this fire team should have known this. To stay and be in peril is not an option. You may be working to save homes and a forest but there was no human life in danger!
Structures are not worth loss of life!
That said prayers for the families of these brave souls!
The wind was really strong yesterday, blowing in all sorts of directions, changing all the time. I *imagine* it was like that down there, too, and just overcame them WAY too fast.
These guys were SO highly trained I doubt ??? their superior would’ve let them be compromised.
But...I know nothing about the procedures...
I’m sure all caution was in the mind set!
My idea of fighting this fire is pop as many dozers needed in there, 5 mi out and cut a fire break and set a back fire!
This may seem arm chair but 6 dozers can cut a 4 lane dirt road in about 8 hrs with others pushing the debries back into
the back fire. I’m only talking about what is to be saved and then work on the perimeter.
I’m not near the fire, but tears well up at the thought of those lost souls.
I spoke with a friend from Prescott this morning, and he said all the firefighters were from there.
He told me the fire was started by dry lightening, and then the monsoon winds came, and turned it into an inferno in seconds.
I pray for their families and friends. What a horrible, horrible loss.
May the souls of those who gave their all, for the beautiful town of Yarnell - Rest In Peace.
My hub is a vol. firefighter, today there was an announcement on the radio of a moment for silence for the 19 firefighters. Hub was on a wild land fire just a couple of days ago until the “real” wildland firefighters could get there.
They were so young; it is heart rending.
Glad it’s ok for you... I was worried, especially when I heard it TRIPLED!
I have a question: Are fire breaks in these flat wooded areas cost-prohibitive, or EPA prohibited? Bob
