(CNN) -- Former President Jimmy Carter said embattled celebrity chef Paula Deen should be forgiven, arguing that while there's no condoning the racial slurs she uttered, the well-known personality has been candid and apologetic.

Jimmah has a dog in this fight. He has his racist past to be forgiven for.
Senator Byrd was given a pass. So should Paula.
After she has humiliated herself to the country on her apologetic tour she will be forgiven because she’s a rat who voted for the rat
IIRC, “Sheets Byrd” actually used the N-word on the Senate floor or in some media interview once.
Forgiven for what as*hole?
The liberals are such hypocrites. When Jimmy was campaigning for president, he was quoted by the press as saying that he thought neighborhoods should be able to maintain “ethnic purity.” He apologized and explained, etc., and was forgiven and elected. But Paula Deen is crucified, loses all of her endorsement deals, her TV show. Liberals are disgusting.
If I’m being held by gunpoint by ANYONE, you’d better believe I’ll be calling them by every offensive, demeaning name I can think of. Of course, Whoopi says you should be calling such a person “sir”. I guess she figures they are entitled to rob.
Byrd said “white nigger” in an interview. He was trying to make some kind of cultural point about how people talked in the South, back in the day. He wasn’t saying that HE said those words, but I believe he referenced a mother or grandmother.
Which was all beside the point, since the rap on sheets Byrd was his Klan activities and known racist attitudes. All of which were overlooked because he was a Dem power broker and otherwise a LIB.
As for the words “white nigger”, it all depends on who says them. If a Byrd says them, they could be forgiven because when he repeated them on tv he wasn’t specifically aiming them at Black people, he was talking about a cultural expression he had heard. Any excuse will do, for a Byrd. But if Paula Deen were to say them, well, her life is over. No excuses.
From what I know, “white nigger” is a derogatory term for a white person who has so associated themselves with Blacks, they might as well be one.
Another usage might be as a synonym for “white trash”, which is a derogatory way of linking a white person to Blacks - or at least to what was condemed as a lifestyle of poor Blacks.
Jimmah needs to shut up, forever.
Apparently speaking the word nigger is ok as long as you're doing it to a drum beat.
Yes, it is perfectly OK for a white person to sing a ‘nigga’ rap. As soon as you lose the rhythm though white boy, you daid!
Wasn’t Jimmah the pre-”First Black President”?
Are Walmart and Target still selling rap CDs?
“Forgiving” Paula Deen is a nobrainer for anyone with basic intelligence. The relevant question here is should we ever forgive Jimmy Carter?
The reason I lost interest in Paula Dean was when I saw her show with Jimmah...fawning and falling over herself to cook something for him. Now this...it doesn’t surprise me. He will reach down and pull her up from bended knee after she kisses his progressive ring. He is so kind and loving and forgiving and....
I wish this ahole would kick off already. His celebratory state funeral is too far overdue.
Talk about bigotry, they don’t think of Paula Deen as someone who may indeed have “evolved” thus becoming a better person, etc...as though liberals are the only people capable of that.
Jimmy Carter: Recovering Racist, Still a Bigot
Carter stopped by the Rebel Room Tavern, a bar that once existed near the old Woolworth building and catered to southern servicemen based near by (Ft. Drum). Not knowing that an employee from the local paper was present, Carter joked around with the locals and, as two of those locals related the story to my friend, "every other word out of his mouth was 'nigger' or 'kike.'"

Gorin is right on target here. I know of this incident, and there are more locals who speak of it privately, than are willing to talk about it on the record.
I never heard of Paula Deen until this became news. So I ask why is this news? And why would anyone give a rats rear end what someone said 25 or so years ago.
