Boehner: Border Security & Majority of GOP Essential to Pass Immigration Reform in the House
Speaker of the House ^ | Tuesday, June 18, 2013 | John Boeher

Posted on 06/18/2013 8:15:30 AM PDT by kristinn

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) made the following remarks on immigration reform at a press conference earlier today:

“Listen, I think this immigration issue’s been kicked around this town now for 15 years. That’s why I said the day after the election it was time for Congress to do its work.

“ I’m increasingly concerned that the White House and Senate Democrats …would rather have this as an issue in the 2014 election, rather than to resolve it. It was the president who said that he wanted a robust vote coming out of the Senate to help move this process along. And yet here’s the president and Senate Democrats working to limit the number of Republican votes that this immigration bill is likely to get. I think that’s unfortunate.

“On the House side, I’ve made clear to our members that we’re going to have a discussion about this on July 10th. We’re going to have a special conference and we’re going to lay all of this out and listen to what the members have to say.

“I also suggested to our members today that any immigration reform bill that is going to go into law ought to have a majority of both parties’ support if we’re really serious about making that happen. And so I don’t see any way of bringing an immigration bill to the floor that doesn’t have a majority support of Republicans. But I just think the White House and Senate Democrats ought to get very serious.

“We know that border security is absolutely essential if we’re going to give people confidence that we can do the rest of what’s being suggested. And I frankly think the Senate bill is weak on border security. I think the internal enforcement mechanisms are weak, and the triggers are almost laughable. And so if they’re serious about getting an immigration bill finished, I think the president and Senate Democrats ought to reach out to their … Republican colleagues to build broad bipartisan support for the bill.”

The only way to prevent a pro-illegal, anti-border security bill from being passed into law is to not pass any immigration bill out of the House at this time.

Any bill passed by the House will be gutted and rewritten when it goes to the conference committee for resolution. It will end up with guaranteed amnesty and no mandatory closing of the border.

Once a bill is reported out of conference and sent back to both houses for a vote it becomes problematic for the senate or house to vote it down, but more so for the republican house.

Especially in the today’s political environment where the major media is pushing for pro-illegal legislation and basically acting as the public relations department of the democrat party.

Is there no way to stop this?

It’s like watching your house burn down, and you’re forced to stand there and not fight the flames, and you’re told “Wait for the “Professionals” to show up”... and when they finally DO show up, they say “Nah...it’s too late. Let it burn.”

There will be a lot of drama around “border security” with a proclamation that the bill is good because it increases it because of some amendment or amendments.

We are being set up for this thing to be pushed through....

This statement from Boehner is solid if he actually lives up to it.

LOL. You do know that traitor Boehner is outright lying?? Haven't you been following the reality of this fraud's plan?

In order to scam the Conservative leaning members and fool the Conservative public, Boehner will place very strong sounding measures into the bill.

Then in the reconciliation process, all this will be ripped out and it will be passed right away.

Regardless, 1min 20sec after this bill is signed Schumky and most on the left will be screaming that the "law" treats newly minted welfare citizens as 2nd class.

Some judge will agree and bingo, million new RAT voters in 2014!!!!

the main thing to remember is that Boehner hates Conservatives and that Boehner hates Tea Party people with a white-hot passion

Boehner realizes he has to remain friendly to Tea Party types because his district if full of them. Rural and suburban Ohio has been conservative republican for quite some time.

It has been republican since 1939 and since the Civil War all but 20 years. If there were such a thing as a conservative caucus in the GOP that could organize his district, Boehner would be so conservative that William Buckley would pay homage from the grave.

This is about as pathetic as it gets.

Notice he used the word "should" instead of "Must." He didn't see any way a bill could come to a vote.....Unless of course he schedules it, scum that he is.

We should be talking about undoing ObamaCare not Amnesty.

Big News Conference tomorrow with a supposed 70 members of Republican Majority to protest any bill being brought to the floor. I have hard no one even mention it and doubt FNC will cover it. Rush is kicking of a Two if By Tea promo tomorrow, an even the nitwit Hannity shut down a guest he had on last night that tried to bring up the shin dig.

234(R) / 201(D)

Can someone please explain to me why having 70 Republicans from the house who object to this bill go out and meet the press, is a good idea?

That makes it look like 164 Republicans are ambiguous about the bill.

It only takes 17 Republicans to peel off and vote with the Democrats to pass this bill.

Once a bill is reported out of conference and sent back to both houses for a vote it becomes problematic for the senate or house to vote it down, but more so for the republican house.

Unfortunately, if the House does not pass something, there is another way for RINOs. They can vote with House Dems to pass the senate bill. This has happened recently on the VAWA.

Boehner said today “I also suggested to our members today that any immigration reform bill that is going to go into law ought to have a majority of both parties’ support, if we’re really serious about making that happen

WTH??? "Suggested?" "majority of both parties’ support?" I suspect that is going to boil down to Dems+RINOs, but it might mean that each party would have to have a majority supporting it. Maybe that's the best Boehner can communicate, but maybe he doesn't want to be clear.

NOTE I don't have a working crystal ball. Sometimes fate changes for reasons none of us predicted. For example, in the 2007 amnesty McCain could have killed a GOP poison pill that defeated Reid but he was absent, gone to a fundraiser for his POTUS campaign.

All of us should watch GOP congresscritters carefully, and inform them that we are watching them, even if they are behind closed doors in some senate-house conference committee (the House part of which will probably have a bigger % of RINOs than the whole House membership). Some of them may not care, but I think that's the best shot we have.

It makes Bonehead look bad and untrustworthy which s good.

It made you and I aware of Bonehead and Ryan’s usual K street games .

They wanted to rile up the GOP base which they did !
Bonehead is running scared now .

Well this should shed some light on what we used to yell when playing Hide & Seek.....to end the game and call everyone in.

From Wikipedia: "Olly olly oxen free" is suspiciously close to the German phrase "Alle, alle auch sind frei," meaning "everyone, everyone is also free."

I looked this up because I think it should be the Republican's rallying cry for the Illegal Immigrant issue.

It only takes 17 Republicans to peel off and vote with the Democrats to pass this bill.

They will be there for any immigration bill that comes out of reconciliation for sure.

If Boehner brings any bill to the floor, the Republic is over. Being old and in bad health is starting to look like an advantage.

No information yet on how many of those 70 even showed up.

The Blaze is streaming Beck's speech, looks to be 13,000 or so watching the stream. Zero coverage on the Cable Channels or C-Span

I don’t want to see a bill come to the floor either.

Did Beck announce anything ‘big’ after he stopped crying?

Is he trying to horn in on Boehner’s signature emotion?
