NSA surveillance: anger mounts in Congress at 'spying on Americans'
The Guardian UK ^ | June 12, 2013 | Dan Roberts and Spencer Ackerman in Washington and Alan Travis in London

Anger was mounting in Congress on Tuesday night as politicians, briefed for the first time after revelations about the government's surveillance dragnet, vowed to rein in a system that one said amounted to "spying on Americans".

Intelligence chiefs and FBI officials had hoped that the closed-door briefing with a full meeting of the House of Representatives would help reassure members about the widespread collection of US phone records revealed by the Guardian.

But senior figures from both parties emerged from the meeting alarmed at the extent of a surveillance program that many claimed never to have heard of until whistleblower Edward Snowden leaked a series of top-secret documents.

Today, the beast is not known as fedgov, but as the police state Obama wants to put in place. Edward Snowden is a hero precisely because he exposed the extent to which the Feds have helped Obama to do so.

I saw Graham. And Rudy acted the same way. Nervous laughs about things Greta obviously didn’t think was funny. She appeared to be pissed off!

Peter King said reporters should be arrested. Boner says Snowden is a traitor. Yep, either they’ve been told what they have on them or they KNOW there’s something in their closets that they really don’t want to be made public.

When Valeria Jarrett said “we have judges ready” I thought she meant judges to appoint. I’m starting to believe she meant they already have judges in their pockets through blackmail.

My wife says we’re travelling at warp speed toward destruction.

I blame those being blackmailed just as much as those doing the blackmailing. The dirt in their lives is what made them targets. The government doesn’t even have to tell Graham and mccain and the rest what they have on them. The fact that they now know the government has it will make them jump when obama says “frog”.

Rudy keeps bringing up the high school drop out crap. I wish someone would say “Well, Rudy, even with all your degrees, Mr. Snowden advanced a hell of a lot further than you ever dreamed of.”

The NSA has been given directives from the elected officials. The NSA is not the problem.

Exactly right. It is the evil totalitarians that work for and that support OBama's goal of the destruction of our Republic as founded.

I have no doubt that since Jan 2009, Obama and his team went to work corrupting all institutions. They knew the power they could wield if they could turn the NSA inward.

I pray that more inside the NSA would come forward in the proper manner and expose any corruption of the NSA by this administration.

I’ve never seen the articulate Rove stammering and stuttering like he was last night. They’re all nervous nellies.

I’m a retired NSA officer. During all my 33 years of service with the Agency, I NEVER targeted any US person.

Thank you for your service to our Republic.

true, this drop out is a snarky little insult to demean the guy who had balls to tell us all what the obama Govt is doing and yet even on here there is a freeper which defends this spying.

There will always be sheep and they will always repeat the talking points but to see some on our side on TV feed us B/S and now they are acting all surprised and to see even on here someone defend this spying and attack this guy shows me that we either have trolls or we have become a nation of sheep minus a few

very true.

They are used to going out there and just repeating talking points because the masses will sit there and repeat those talking points but people are waking up and knowing that Dems and GOP are really the same with a bunch of ruling elitist class ivy league snobs who only care about their own power and wealth

Well there’s cute and then just plain unseemly and otherwise disgusting. This whole monitoring regimen has been building since the days of jFK. And everyone of these geniuses has voted for spending the MONEY on it. And it has eaten up a huge amount of money. They just itch to spend money and now they claim they had no idea what it was for? I’ll bring all the tar I can haul. Somebody want to help me with a big stove?

Great point about the drugs-—If the NSA geniuses were as good as they claim wouldn’t they know who all the drug dealers are? And shouldn’t they all be on trial by now?

I would hope that there enough patriots in all the agencies to throw up a strong line of defense that can keep the enemies, both foreign and DOMESTIC, at bay until the cavalry arrives in Jan 2017.

B.S. If the moron Maxine Waters knew about this, so did the rest of Congress. Please save us your fake indignation.

Yup. But now most of the enemy resides inside the beltway, not Moscow or Peking.

This can’t be right. NPR was on this morning insisting that most Americans just wanted to be safe and spying on us was A-OK. Surely they weren’t lying.

Snowden said the government will warn us about an attack and then tyranny will follow. I got the feeling he was saying the “attack” will not really exist.

I’ve said on other threads that if the feds announce there are nukes in some major cities and busses will be picking people up and taking them to safe locations, millions and millions will be asking “Which way to the bus stop?”

And if people don’t do as they’re “asked”, a nuke will really go off. The question will be who lit the fuse?
