A veteran member of the U.S. Army Band said he is facing retribution and punishment from the military for having anti-Obama bumper stickers on his car, reading books written by conservative authors like Mark Levin and David Limbaugh, and serving Chick-fil-A sandwiches at his promotion party.
Master Sgt. Nathan Sommers, a 25-year Army veteran and conservative Christian based at Fort Myer in Washington, believes his outspoken opposition to gay marriage prompted higher-ups to take a closer look at his beliefs. The recipient of an Army Commendation Medal and a soloist at the funeral of former First Lady Betty Ford, Sommers said his core beliefs are enough to mark a soldier for persecution in todays military.
It seems like with the repeal of Dont Ask, Dont Tell that the Christians have been the ones whove had to go underground and in the closet for fear of retaliation and reprisals, Sommers told Fox News. Christians feel like they cant be forthright with their faith. They have to hide.
Ret. Navy Commander John Bennett Wells is representing the master sergeant. He said there is no doubt in his mind that the U.S. military is discriminating against Christians and specifically his client.
Theres no question about it, Wells told Fox News. Because he is religious, because he feels that homosexual conduct is wrong for religious reasons, he is basically being persecuted.
Lt. Col. Justin Platt, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon released a statement to Fox News noting that the military branch cannot comment on ongoing investigations or administrative actions.
Army documents obtained by Fox News indicate Sommers was told that his actions bordered on being disrespectful to President Obama and the slightest inference of disrespect towards superiors can have a demoralizing effect on the unit.

Or it will keep them out. I discouraged my son from considering the military. I hated to do it, but there need to be some changes, before I will encourage him to go in.
I’m pretty sure that the military is being purged of real USAians. Many units are being downsized, supposedly via raffle, to determine who leaves.
I’d bet real money that there usually isn’t any raffle involved; political and religious components determine who stays. When Detroit car companies where _saved_ by USG, of the thousands of dealers closed, 85-90% we owned by conservatives.
USA, eyes closed... Presupposing what was, has something to do with what is.
It pains me too, having done a career in the Air Force, but it's not the same organization now.
And Americans will have less compunction about shooting them.
“Why would he be reading, in uniform and on duty?”
In the military, isn’t one on duty 24/7 except for leave and passes?
“Crap like this is going to drive conservative and Christian people out of the Armed Forces.”
Agreed. Many will abandon the field to the enemy.
Just another scandal in a series of scandals representing attacks on pro-Constitutionalists. IRS targeting Tea Party is clear evidence of this. America is being managed by TRAITORS.
Everything is completely upside down. My father was 19 when he went into the Army in 1943. There turned out to be a queer in his barracks who made a pass at one of the men. The fag was thrown out with a dishonorable discharge.
Now, our military is in love with sodomites.
By what right or authority can they specifically call out what authors he may not read while in uniform.
What is the approved list of authors for A Correct Citizen?
Now, we've lost the military. What's left?
A family member, at the age of 18 in 1945, was disturbed by something similar in a Navy barracks. He didn’t know what was going on - had not yet heard of homosexuality.
Very honest here. He never said anything until about the 1980’s.
I can understand that. It probably made him too sick to contemplate it.

Your post is exactly correct.
It is all part of the plan.
Perhaps he;s on overnight duty either as the XO or with the XO (there is an enlisted man working the night with the XO.)
Being retired Air Force myself, it gives me no pleasure to discourage him, but I could not encourage him, and still have any self respect left.
Re-reading my comment, to clear any possible confusion, the incident did not happen TO him - it was going on where all could at least hear - - -
Active Military shouldn’t have to deal with the crap the civilians should be attending to.
I was in the service and we were never told what materials we could or could not read. (as long as it didn't involve national security.)
I also had great discussions on religion with my buddies while in the barracks.
I am afraid the military is not what it once was.
On duty...you boss controls you. Off duty, do what you want. Has that ever been different?
Back in the day, I don’t think I would have said anything about a political book, but no one was ready Penthouse or Playboy on duty.
Its a judgement call. In this case, probably bad judgement, but its still the bosses (CO’s) call.
