Syrian rebels are clinging on to more than half of the country in the face of a powerful offensive from pro-government forces, yet continuing divisions and atrocities perpetrated by many of their number threaten to undermine their cause. This, rather than Russian military hardware or Iranian and regional Shi'ite manpower, is Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's most powerful trump card.
Earlier this week, the opposition once again failed to elect a representative leadership, and also likely alienated Saudi Arabia, as Reuters reported. [1] True, it won a powerful vote of confidence from Britain and France, who forced an expiration of the European Union arms embargo against it, and also from United States

Iran?
Why would they be targeted? The are the original Islamic Revolution thanks to Jimmy Carter.
They've been running a proxy war against the US and Israel all this time. Iran pretty much controls everything moslem.
That’s true and they can count on Hussein Obama to be their US protector.
Can’t say I blame Assad for hanging in there....but he’ll be done regardless of how long he holds out...just like Egypt and Libya when they refused to bow to the powers that be...
But as with Syria so too with Iran, in that Putin will support Iran. He’s busy juggling his hand all around right now...and he does have some cards to play... and play them he will... and is.
You do realise that there are two types of muslims and that Shiite Iran “controls” only Shiite muslims which are like 10% of the muslims worldwide. Most Shiites live in Iran aswell so its not a global thing like Sunni Islam.
I really want to know what this proxy war against the US and Israel was and where it has taken place.
I really am intrigued..
I think a certain senator has lost all moral authority, and can no longer use the POW card for sympathy or patriotism.

Way to go, tool.
I guess your search engine blew up?
I accept your concession.
Well noobie...
Actually what you accepted was me going to work and then taking my wife out to dinner. I see you still haven't figured out how to "google" something.
Hezbollah and many other terrorist organizations are not so thinly veiled extensions of the extremist Iranian regime. A significant majority of the attacks on US troops in "post invasion" Iraq were actually Republican Guard trained "jihadists" using materiels directly traceable to Iran.
Iran has been supporting the Taliban in Afghanistan since 2001.
Now, could I get you to clip my toenails? Thanks.
Duh...who do you think these various "warring factions" are? Red ants, black ants...same thing. The uprisings and revolutions in Egypt, Libya, Syria...
Who did you think these rebels, the resistance are...Southern Baptists?
IBTZ’s.

Some ants are worse than others.
Secular Baathist and Shia regimes (old Iraq, Lybia, Egypt, present Syria, Iran) aren’t about a global domination.
Their main idea is to keep others from what they think is their property (unfortunately some of them sees Israel as part of their land). Killing infidels aren’t a main part of their agenda, most of them are tolerant to other religions, some of them aren’t even a Jew haters.
No matter how aggressive Iran’s rhetoric is, it’s mostly aimed for domestic consumption or to deter the West from involvement there.
Sunni fundamentalists (Al-Qaeda, Muslim brotherhood, including Syrian rebels) are absolute different type of ants. Their agenda is about global domination via jihad. No Jews, Christians and Shia. All things infidel are about to get destroyed. They are the people who did 9/11, Boston bombing, London beheading (and Syrian rebels too). They hate Assad not because he is a dictator but because he is soft on minorities and not aggressive enough to Israel.
That's because "secular" moslems aren't good moslems. They're just moslem enough to keep from getting killed by the real moslems.
