Daily Kos: Oklahoma Tornado Casualties Show That ‘Free Market Conservatism Kills’

If you were looking for righty-bashing blog posts related to the Moore, Oklahoma disaster, Daily Kos was the place to be this past Wednesday.

Ian Reifowitz argued that conservatives’ childish hostility to government regulation boosted the tornado’s death toll because neither state nor local law requires safe rooms or shelters, and that absent a mandate, such life-saving structures quite often won’t get built. Reifowitz wrote:

Free market conservatism kills? Yes, that’s right…[T]here were no rules in Moore or anywhere else in Oklahoma mandating that buildings…have so-called “safe rooms” or underground shelters to protect people during a storm…

I've been to China several times in the last few years...specifically,southern China (the most prosperous, and “advanced” part of the country).I've also been to LA and NYC (among other major US cities) many times in recent years. The clearest days (in terms of visibility) that I saw in Honk Kong/southern China during those trips were 50 times worse than the worst days I've seen in any part of this country or Europe (which I've also visited recently).

It’s an unquestioned maxim on the Left that you’re too stupid to do anything for yourself, and must be coerced by the government Nanny State.

I’d rather have a free-market safe room then one built to government specifications any day.

The State run School system is not a free market! Who ever runs the School system decides what Schools have and do not have! No one had a care about a safe house for students for protection for tornados but they did have a desire for the new Turf on the Football field!
Schools are funded with tax money. Where do they find these idiots!

The Moore School District spent about $400k for new turf on the HS football stadium, instead of on tornado shelters. I would venture to guess
that most of the school board members were not ‘free market’ types...

“I HATE FREE MARKETS! I HATE CAPITALISM!!” when run by corrupt, bloated, inefficient big brother government..

There now, fixed.

Then again ? that's a oxymoron because you can't have free markets if big government is involved.

Daily Kos retards, regulators don’t require building projects. They prevent them. They discourage building with their nonsense regulations (often effectively mandating engineers where not needed), taxes and fees.

Lately, planning and building office employees haven’t been doing much of anything in rural counties, so why are they paid?

With a headline like that, the Daily Kossacks must also think that global warming is the cause, too...

...oh wait...never mind... :P

Here's one you forgot: People who live in flood zones should be required to build their houses on pontoons and are attached to reels by 80 foot chains. The chains would play out as the water rose, locking in place as the water level stayed static playing out slowly as the water rose, keeping the house above water and anchored in place also.

Hopefully the government isn't monitoring this thread, no sense in giving them any more idiotic ideas.
