Yesterday was a dark day for America. Delegates to a national Boy Scouts of America (BSA) meeting in Texas apparently voted overwhelmingly on Thursday to validate homosexuality among boys. We are outraged.
This is a betrayal of the highest magnitude. It's a betrayal of the boys in the Scouts' care. It's a betrayal of trusting parents. It's a betrayal of a 103-year-old institution that has molded millions of boys into men. It's a betrayal of truth and honor.
Finally, it's a betrayal of God, in Whose name the organization furthered the priceless worth of being morally straight.
The immoral campaign within the BSA to sell out America's youths on the altar of political correctness appears to have been motivated by greed for corporate dollars and fear of being "on the wrong side" of an increasingly coarse culture that not only rejects biblical truth but openly attacks it.
The fallout of this evil act will be devastating, especially in areas where fathers are rare and boys desperately need male role models, such as in the inner cities. Apparently, these boys are expendable.
The decision also furthers the false notion that people are "born gay" and have no hope of overcoming that particular temptation. The idea of "gay kids" is a tragic myth embraced by those who willfully ignore the profound moral, social and spiritual consequences of homosexuality. Also ignored are the many people who once believed they were born that way but like other sinners were healed by faith and went on to lead fuller lives.
Absent in the debate are the well-documented health risks associated with homosexual behavior, especially among males.

I was on the bubble about pushing my son into BSA. Now it’s a no-brainier. They can rot.
It will take state and local troops to tell the national to go pound sand.
This is an opportunity to see state action. How much funding does a local troop receive from the national organization actually?

I was a Boy Scout in my youth and had a discussion with my 86-year old mother about yesterday’s decision [she’s visiting my family].
She couldn’t bellieve that I disagreed with the decision and that she could not believe that I was “not tolerant” of gay teenage boys. After all, she said, “Its not like they are admitting gay Scoutmasters ...”
Tonight, we were watching the news [WJZ Baltimore] and a segment about the BSA vote ran on the air. The Baltimore Council vote 69% in favor of admittance. Then, the Council member who was interviewed added, “Now, we get gay Scoutmasters admitted ...”

I read Tim Jeal’s exhaustive biography of B-P, The Boy-Man: The Life of Lord Baden-Powell, 13 years ago. I thought it was very well researched. The evidence has to be viewed in the context of the times (just like studying the Bible), i.e., Victorian England. It is difficult for modern Americans to appreciate this. Having said that, below is what I remember ...
His father was an Anglican minister. He died when B-P was 3 years old. His widowed mother raised him along with 6 siblings. She was a strong woman who was determined that her children would succeed.
B-P had a very close friendship with Kenneth McLaren in their early army service years. McLaren would later marry and die while relatively young.
He had very few, if any, female friends over the course of his life.
There is no evidence of him ever having a romantic girl friend.
His record of correspondence showed apathy for the female body.
His record of correspondence showed a keen appreciation for the male body.
His record of correspondence with the headmaster of his old public school, Charterhouse School, included a request to see, again, a photo album of nude male students. Such photos were taken in those days for medical evaluation of range of motion of the limbs, to assess spinal alignment (detect scoliosis) and polio development. This was done for males and females, and was part of medical training in orthopedics and pediatrics and was a standard of medical practice. It was done in the U.S. starting in the 1880’s in the Ivy League colleges. Charterhouse was a school for the affluent.
As a child, his sense of dramatics was encouraged which developed into a fondness for acting out skits and plays.
He was especially fond of the play/book, “Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up” which appeared in 1904.
He married Olave St Clair Soames in 1912 when he was 55 and she was 23 (5 years after he founded the Scouting movement in the UK.) Her father thought B-P led her own in hopes of marriage. The evidence does not indicate B-P behaved improprely. Her father would have publicly humiliated B-P had B-P not married his daughter.
The evidence suggested that their marriage was not romantically passionate.
After siring 3 children with Olave, he arranged separate bedrooms for Olave and him in their home for the rest of his life.
1919 - British Scout Commissioner William de Bois Maclaren bought the dilapidated Chinnery estate north of London in Sewardstonebury, Epping Forest, close to Chingford, for £7,000. He spent an additional £3,000 for improvements to the house that was on the estate. He donated all of it to the Scout Association of the U.K. to provide a camping ground for London scouts and a training site for scouters. It was re-named Gilwell Park. The 1st Wood Badge course was held at GP during 9/08-19/1919. Wood Badge training continued at GP, and it became the home of leadership training in the Scout movement. During the early 1920s there were several officially reported incidents of adult male volunteers sexually molesting male youth campers at GP.
I thought Mr. Jeal's book was presented even-handedly. I did not detect an agenda to tarnish the reputaton of B-P. It did not diminish my great appreciation for B-P.
Great post. But it would have been better if you had used spell check before sending it off. It’s “deluding.” Not dilluding. That funny wavy red line under “dilluding” should have told you as much.

In the end, it all came down to the money.
Nothing else had anything to do with anything.
The simple scum in charge of the BSA were corrupted by the money.
After that, it was all internal politics and spin.
All this, and more, is an organized, orchestrated campaign by the homosexual lobby to dispirit boys and influence public opinion in favour of homosexual sex.
I believe that you should crack open Jeal's book again and look at it with more aware eyes.
My apologies if you find my advice offensive. I have found that my own awareness has grown over the years.
I should have said that Jeal was “conclusory”, not “definitive”. I, for one, disagree with Jeal’s conclusion.
