Pew Poll: Obama Maintains Approval Advantage, but GOP Runs Even on Key Issues
Pew Research ^ | 05/09/2013

Posted on 05/09/2013 1:51:29 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

President Obama continues to hold a substantial advantage over congressional Republicans in public regard. Obama’s job approval is back in positive territory at 51%, after slipping to 47% in March. By comparison, just 22% approve of the job Republican leaders in Congress are doing, among the lowest approval rating for congressional leaders from either party in 20 years.

Furthermore, a record-high 80% say Obama and Republican leaders are not working together to address important issues facing the country, and by nearly two-to-one (42%-22%) more blame Republican leaders than Obama for the gridlock.

Despite GOP leaders’ poor job ratings, the Republican Party runs about even with the Democrats on leading issues such as the economy, immigration and gun control. Overall, 42% say the Republican Party could do the better job dealing with the economy, while 38% say the Democratic Party. The public is similarly divided over which party could better handle gun control policy and immigration policy.

The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center, conducted May 1-5 among 1,504 adults, finds that Republicans have particularly low regard for their party’s congressional leaders. Just 42% approve of the job GOP leaders in Congress are doing, while 51% disapprove. This is far below the job ratings that Democrats give their party’s leaders (60% approve, 32% disapprove).

Despite their frustration with the party’s leadership, Republicans overwhelmingly say the GOP could do a better job than the Democratic Party when it comes to issues like the economy, immigration and gun control. By comparison, fewer Democrats side with their party on the economy and gun control, which is one reason why Republicans run even with the Democrats overall. On each of these three issues, independents are split as to whether the Republican Party or the Democratic Party could do better.

It’s not stupidity at all.
Entitlement freeloaders and crony capitalists are responding in a perfectly rational manner.

No different than telling the kid with failing grades that he’s doing just fine. HIDE THE DECLINE that’s the SOCIALIST DEMOCRAT WAY.

79% of people think he “Stands up for what he believes in”.

The only thing I see him believing in his own self-importance. He has no other beliefs.

I’m still “polluting” the atmosphere with CO2 so I have a little hope. I think.

“How in the name of everything that’s holy is that bastard over 25%?”

I don’t believe he is; I work with too many unhappy blacks who wholeheartedly supported him in 2008, held their noses while pulling the knob for him in 2012, and now are getting financially desperate (one lost his home in a foreclosure, another lost many hours at her second job, and a third is the sole breadwinner after her “husband” lost his job. They bemoan all the things they used to do in the “before-times” (going on cruises, shopping with discretionary dollars, etc.), and I think especially in the last six months they are realizing that he is a disaster. These are working people, and they are getting crushed (like most other Americans).

I also know many unskilled whites who have either lost their jobs or had their hours cut/income fall steeply; in my area (northern NJ) there are no signs that this will turn around any time in the next few years. Young people without children are sharing apartments or moving back home, and whereas before I used to sympathize with them I simply can’t hold my tongue anymore when they tell me they never bothered to vote.

The media did a great job suppressing the vote; the far left outnumbers the right, and the center sat it out. To Hell with them; their suffering is my entertainment as I struggle myself (because at least I tried).

What’s new here? Conservatives despise the House leadership. If they had the guts to start taking the fight to Obama and force him to compromise, those numbers could turn around. Instead, they will interpret this to mean they have to cave. What a bunch of morons.

Of course Obama stands up for what he believes in. It’s what he believes in that is the problem.

best post of the week thus far.

I’ts what he wants and stands for is the problem.
I wish we had people like him and Pelosi who fight for their beliefs , instead we have a party which are cowardly on social issues, only mention fiscal issues a few times and issues like immigration we always have t find common ground.

The social issues is the lefts holy grail, they want homosexuality cross dressing etc and they do not shy away, infact they push it so much that people start to support it while our side doesn;t say a frigging word

I don’t see a dime’s worth of difference between the parties. Depressing.

Ras has him at 48% approve 50% disapprove. Pew is dim affiliated.

obomba will go down further as his evil is uncovered and the low information voters learn the truth through the jokes of late night TV scumbags.

Same here. The more a liberal suffers, I LOL and happier. These scumbags voted for another 4 years of misery so I truly...truly hope the worst on these f***s.

No surprise there. The Republicans haven’t had a coherent message or platform in decades and routinely allow the left to set the agenda and frame the narrative on virtually every issue.

I’m surprised it’s even this close.

I was referring to those that didn’t bother to vote. As for the Obama voters themselves, many of them were the first to lose their jobs as companies downsized. Companies took on their required quota of useless toekns when times were good, but when it came time to trim the fat, as the least productive they were the first to go.

Toss in a toady media and corrupt government education (read: indoctrination) system and that’s the formula.
