I’d think gutting a 747 wouldn’t take long. And they can do good air cover with their US fighters. Not optimal but doable.

No, C130 style...out the back. Do the 747 cargo planes have a drop down ‘tailgate’ like a C130? Not sure. But I imagine if they HAD to go such a route a standard 47 could be modified.
