Losing South Carolina (GOP throws Mark Sanford under bus)
http://www.redstate.com ^ | April 30, 2013 | Erick Erickson

It is an amazing testament to how bad the other candidates were that Mark Sanford ran away with the race in South Carolina’s first congressional district.

A deeply flawed man, he was the one guy the primary voters knew wouldn’t go wobbly in Washington. But they, and I, presumed he was over the issues with his ex-wife. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago we learned things were not settled.

The NRCC and GOP abandoned Mark Sanford as a result. In a race the GOP could still — even now — win, the GOP decided it would rather lose than win.

Unfortunately for the GOP, losing South Carolina’s Republican first congressional district will give labor unions a massive win.

The unions, which passionately hate Boeing producing the 787 in Charleston, have poured money in to help Elizabeth Colbert Busch. Right now, thanks to the NRCC pulling out of the race, the Democrats are outspending Mark Sanford three to one.

Yesterday, the Sanford campaign discovered Colbert-Bush has gotten a massive pile of money from another ultra-liberal group. But Republicans are doing nothing.

At this time, even with all Sanford’s flaws, it seems ridiculous that the GOP would give labor unions a massive win. The media will herald it as a rejection, even in South Carolina, of Republicans. The unions will herald it as a major win for big labor.

In the process. the first district would get a stooge for Nancy Pelosi and a puppet for labor unions against Boeing.

Mark Sanford can still win. But he’s going to need a lot of help. The chickens at the NRCC ran as quickly as they could. They need to man up and fight like hell.

Sanford is nothing more than a hubris filled moron. He actually thought that his ex-wife’s complaint against him would remain sealed??? Hell, Obamas path to the White House was PAVED with sealed family court documents that made it into the public domain.

He shouldn’t have run. If he loses the only one to blame is him. I don’t know how I’d vote if I lived there, so I’m not going to criticize how other people do.

I will say this: the Colbert-Busch as a union tool argument is a red herring desperation tactic. She gets 18 months as a Dem member of the GOP controlled House. Then she has to defend whatever record she compiles in a solidly GOP district. It’s not going to be whether she loses, but by how much. If she turns out to be a union tool who undemines Boeings attempt to bring jobs to the state, or a Pelosi pawn, she’s going to get crushed. Completely.

So you really think Sanford has a snowball's chance in hell?

Dunno. But I would guess he wouldn't come to FR looking for encouragement. Trey Gowdy's my Rep.

Charleston, do you want a 100% pure and saintly Obama liberal who has never had an affair? Or do you want a former effective conservative S. C. Governor to represent you?

I don’t see how having this guy be part of the face of the GOP is of benefit to us. He’s part of the problem...and we already have enough others who are a problem without adding more to the mix.

Do YOU find the 2013 face of the GOP to be attractive as it is? Well, it doesn't shift my gears.

No one wants the socialist, but it’s Sanford’s own fault his poll numbers tanked. Can’t blame GOP for the guy’s pathetic personal life.

Don't know what you are asking me. Are you suggesting what he did was fine? Are you suggesting that “conservative” adulterors should get a pass as long as they are running against a liberal?

What Mark Stanford did was wrong morally & practicably. He places the Romania emotion of love above the commitment of marriage.

This we cannot endorse nor hold as acceptable if the institution of Marriage is to survive. At the same time the South Carolina GOP has put us into the foolish position of having to either support this guy or a leftist(by absence).

I do not like the situation, and the south Carolina GOP deserves condemnation for allowing it. But we must remember politics is not the art the possible NOT desirable.

We must support Stanford in this election while working to reform the South Carolina GOP to prohibit such situations from happening again.

He was violating a court order and on his wife’s property. Call it whatever you want, he got caught. I call is stalking, as he was not invited and had no right to be there.

if no one wants the socialist then why keep doing the lefts work and attacking Sanford, we know damn well what he did and we can sort that out at a later date but to risk losing this seat and helping Obama is plain nuts

agree, we all know it was stupid but to attack him and then say SC deserves this etc is plain nuts.
We have to win this seat no matter what ,w e have to not want Obama t get an easier time pushing his socialist agenda

Frankly, it’s up to the voters of his district. I don’t live there and refuse to condone this lunatic. Are they screwed? You betcha. Is it fair? No. Life never is.

All commies have sex with large dogs and sheep ~ or goats ~ we know that ~ but Sanford is at the beginning stages of a mental deterioration that usually takes you into leftwingtard land pretty soon.

I think Marks supporters are going to be very disappointed.

BTW, if the concern about losing is because his poll numbers tanked, the problem is in the polling, not Sanford. People don't switch their support from the guy they just voted FOR to the she devil they voted AGAINST like that. Her numbers didn't go up. She's most likely the plain old leftwingtard idiot she's always been.

Let’s face it! The GOP no longer represents conservative Americans. It only represents the GOP and basically GOP insiders as well. They are in fact turning themselves into political toast.

Was just wondering about your interest in S.C.'s 1st Cong. Dist. race (Charleston) from up there in N.H.

And while you're trying to put words in my mouth regarding adulterers getting a pass, try this answer on for size: It's folks like you on FR that cannot see the plank in their own eyes. Sure, stone Sanford and stone him again, if you are qualified.

I am not joking. Anyone that would break that vow to his wife wouldn't hesitate a second to break his oath of office. He lied about it repeatedly until he realized he couldn't get away with it and then and only then did he "come clean". Sure having a flaming liberal in office is bad, but neither should even be considered for office.

I can't vote for either of them, but there is something terribly wrong with America when having Sanford lose is considered a tragedy for the republican party, or SC. What makes you think that Sanford wouldn't do the same thing the flaming liberal would? He's betrayed people a lot more dear to him than some pesky constituents. Constituents I might add that are proving it doesn't matter what you do or say as long as you have name recognition.

nothing specific here.

However I wonder how many of these “walk on water” holier than thou” stay at home non-voters are really bubba strategy plants to help democrats.

The bubba stategy is to push the meme to “stay home” rather than vote becaus the republican candidate is not perfect enough like bubba is perfect.

It is a strategy to depress the votes. So the media matters outfits of podesta go onto sites and say “don’t vote” to take votes off the playing field.

Odd how nobody here tries viral efforts with the dummies.

Gets tossed out in 2014

Oh really? Care to revisit conservative NY21? The rat William Lewis “Bill” Owens is still representing that district. Almost without exception any R over any D any day.

I know what he is.

He should step down but he's not going to. If the dems win; due to the purists vs. fighting back with the cards we have to deal with, that's what will occur. I'd rather have him so the people of South Carolina can have a chance to reason with him to vote the way he needs to. If the corrupt woman wins, another robot for oBama. We have to stop the army of the left even if we get the not so good candidates until we can get better ones. He should have not run, yes but he's there.
