Losing South Carolina (GOP throws Mark Sanford under bus)
http://www.redstate.com ^ | April 30, 2013 | Erick Erickson

It is an amazing testament to how bad the other candidates were that Mark Sanford ran away with the race in South Carolina’s first congressional district.

A deeply flawed man, he was the one guy the primary voters knew wouldn’t go wobbly in Washington. But they, and I, presumed he was over the issues with his ex-wife. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago we learned things were not settled.

The NRCC and GOP abandoned Mark Sanford as a result. In a race the GOP could still — even now — win, the GOP decided it would rather lose than win.

Unfortunately for the GOP, losing South Carolina’s Republican first congressional district will give labor unions a massive win.

The unions, which passionately hate Boeing producing the 787 in Charleston, have poured money in to help Elizabeth Colbert Busch. Right now, thanks to the NRCC pulling out of the race, the Democrats are outspending Mark Sanford three to one.

Yesterday, the Sanford campaign discovered Colbert-Bush has gotten a massive pile of money from another ultra-liberal group. But Republicans are doing nothing.

At this time, even with all Sanford’s flaws, it seems ridiculous that the GOP would give labor unions a massive win. The media will herald it as a rejection, even in South Carolina, of Republicans. The unions will herald it as a major win for big labor.

In the process. the first district would get a stooge for Nancy Pelosi and a puppet for labor unions against Boeing.

Mark Sanford can still win. But he’s going to need a lot of help. The chickens at the NRCC ran as quickly as they could. They need to man up and fight like hell.

So you really think Sanford has a snowball's chance in hell?

According to the Alinskyites, "ridicule is man's most potent weapon," and there's a boatload of raw material for ridicule there.

“Mark Sanford ran away with the race in South Carolina’s first congressional district”

Total BS. Sanford won in a runoff against Curtis Bostic, no way he ran away with the race. It was a close race despite the bias in media coverage for Sanford. The bleating media sheep kept telling us Sanford was a fiscal conservative, which apparently, is all they thought mattered. In the debate last night he even challenged whats-her-name on whether she had a problem with what Bill Clinton did and should Bill be punished for the rest of his life. His best justification is comparing himself to Bill Clinton. Sleaze personified.

I finally understand the conservatives who sat out the presidential election. My vote will be a write-in for Curtis Bostic.

Thank you Florida! Now you see why South Carolina conservatives are the true RINOs here! It is very much us, the people, against the SCGOP and the GOPe.

Too many FReepers in other States have drunk the media’s kool-aid regarding what is and has been going on politically in S.C.

so let me get this right,
we have a guy running for our side who made a mistake . . .

With the magic word "mistake," you got this wrong. ALL WRONG.

so we should get a socialist in that seat instead, is that what you’re saying.
In your view just to be clear .
We get a socialist in power in a conservative area to help bozo push more of his socialist agenda because we saw the candidate do what he did?

Sanford did nothing any other father would not have done. He wanted to watch the Super Bowl with his son.

<><><><

Absolutely. It would have been impossible for Sanford to pick up his son and take him to his place to watch the game. He is The Mark Sanford, he is above having to follow the orders from the courts. Who the hell do they think they are?

You are not listening......Sanford screwed himself out of that seat, he tanked in the polls after his stunt. Man is still self-destructing and unstable. HE is responsible for the flaming liberal...no one but him and the voters who got sucked in.

[Mark Sanford is a hell of a conservative. He was a great governor of SC.]

He was also a great advocate for veterans.

Unfortunately, most of the posters only ‘know’ him by the democrat controlled media.

Funny, I don’t remember my dad running off to South America so he could bone some chick on Father’s Day. He is a scumbag who clearly doesn’t give a shit about his family.

YES! That's it precisely! (Why couldn't I have spoken so clearly...?)

A conservative doesn’t abandon his wife, his kids, and his job, just to get laid. A conservative also doesn’t end up paying a $74,000 fine for misusing government funds. He needs to disappear.

The stalking was recent...still working it’s way through in the court system. Guy hasn’t changed at all. Loser. If he wanted back in politics it was up to him to stay squeaky clean, not the rest of us to overlook his continuous crazy antics.

The South Carolina primary looked a lot like the 2012 Republican presidential primary.

Too many good candidates in the race splitting the conservative vote allowing the worst one to win the nomination.

In 2012, it was Romney. In 2013 it is Mark Sanford.

oh I hear you but I see no answers for anyone flaming him.

Again do you all think we should rather have a socialist in that seat to help Obama push his socialist agenda?

or is it better to have someone who can vote against Obama?

Just to understand the mindset here

;lets see socialist who helps Obama or someone who votes against Obama?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I thought it would be pretty easy to get an answer but alas it seems some would rather lose and let oabma get more power

agreed, let him lose the next election but to think having him lose and then let a socialist in to help Obama just shows how stupid our side has become.

cut their own nose to spite

What’s he doing back in S. Carolina, evidently harassing his ex-wife? Why doesn’t he STAY in S. America with his “soulmate” and leave politics and his ex-wife alone? He did a big ol’ crap pile on his wife’s and the state’s front porch; now he’s baaaaaaack? Now, he’s stuck with Honeypot, and they surely richly deserve each other, or is he now having a hard time swallowing that pill?
