George W. Bush: Great President, even finer man

Eric Golub

BURLINGTON, Vt., April 29, 2013 — The George W. Bush Presidential Library is now living history. The Southern Methodist University campus will house some of the most important documents spanning one of the most consequential periods in American history.

Mr. Bush, affably known by nicknames “43,” “Dubya,” and “The Dub,” entered office after a disputed election. His first few months saw him ram through supply-side tax cuts that turned around a slowing economy he “inherited” from his predecessor. Despite a NASDAQ collapse of over 90 percent, Bush did not spend one minute complaining about his circumstances or blaming anybody else. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work. His promise upon taking office was to “restore honor and dignity to the White House.” After eight years of endless scandals during the prior administration, he did exactly that.

On September 11, 2001, radical Islamists from al Qaeda hijacked American airplanes and flew them into the two World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. A fourth plane destined for the White House was diverted when brave passengers took the plane back. United 93 would crash in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. New York was ground zero of a war America never asked or. Yet after almost four decades of presidents unwilling or unable to take the fight overseas, President George W. Bush launched a Global War on Terror.

He left office with toxic poll numbers, but has seen a revival as Americans come to appreciate and respect the hard choices he made during the toughest of times.

The left always hated him, felt he stole the 2000 election, and never gave him the decency and respect that an American leader deserves. Yet an honest look...

I never said it was an attack on Reagan. But to say Bush did a better job of standng up for conservative principles? That statement might get you a long stay in a rubber room. Your blind spot on Bush’ weaknesses are odd, offputting, and smacks of Obama type hero worship typical of liberal lo fos.

"So... who was President after Ronald Reagan ?"

The one who would have been President had the assassination attempt on Reagan been successful a month into Reagan's first term. The one in a chain of Presidents who knew what really happened in Dallas in 1963 and where put in place to keep the lid covered. The Bush brand is not trustworthy.

So... President Bush was all President Reagan’s fault?

The one I figure is ideal cannot be compared to a eight year POTUS.

But I'm not asking you to compare your selection with President Bush nor with any other current or past President.

I mean, right now, if you got to choose the next 'republican' Presidential Candidate, who would it be ?

WOW, all I have to do is tell you and everything will be OK.
You must be the genie. What's my other two wishes?

Here's a clue, not Rand, Rubio, Ryan or Jeb.

He is a governor who cut spending and lured the state Dems into moblizing into a trap and then he cluster bombed them and was re-elected and picked up GOP seats in assembly at same time. And he is not hamming it up on TV now.

Your point? He was not POTUS like GWB was.

Are those the reasons you think he would make a great President ?

RE :”Scott Walker and LtC West as VP.”

I was thinking of Cruz as VP candidate.
Imagine comparing his VP debate with Ryan's pathetic performance last year.

Great POTUS??

In 2002 I really thought that GWB was going to be ‘great POTUS’, and after he won 2004 I starting having similar thoughts.
By late 2006 I realized how wrong I was and what a disastrous legacy he would leave behind, and how bad the next few years would be.

I dont expect to be picking the next 'candidate'. The GOP primary is pretty much over by the time it reaches my state.

Imagine comparing LtC West with ANYone there.

The man is a combat vet and a Patriot. He won’t take bullsh*t from anybody. Personally, I’d have loved to see him verbally take Biden apart.

But such was not the case, and we are where we are now...

Walker/West

Walker/Cruz

Only combo I can think of. 90% of Republicans have been bought , or are cowards, IMHO.

Walker/Cruz has been the ticket I’ve been thinking of. Some want Cruz in the top spot. Cruz on the ticket has the added bonus (for me) of ticking off certain people with certain eligibility ideas that the courts don’t acknowledge.

Walker has barely been mentioned at all but pundit Larry Sabato stated that he thinks Walker is indeed showing all the signs of being interested.

West has apparently bowed out of a rematch for his congressional seat. I wonder what the future holds for him. I doubt he’d be selected for VP after the Bachmanniszation job the media has done on him.

I’m sorry to hear Col. West decided not to seek a rematch. ‘14 would be an excellent year to take back some of the seats we came up short with in ‘12 (too bad we can’t rerun some of those Senate races).

As for Gov. Walker, he’s been rather quiet as of late. Cruz has single-handedly taken on the national Conservative mantle without apology. He keeps that up and he will be the almost unanimous choice of the base for ‘16 (while the establishment will try to foist Jebbie or that fat tub of merde from New Jersey). President Cruz can then make Sarah Palin Secretary of State. She’s going to have a helluva mess to clean up internationally after Hillary Rodman Klebb and Lurch. As for Col. West ? Secretary of Defense.

Walker needs to win election in 2014. Walker won the recall, because WI voters were wary of recalls. Let’s see if the Left is energized to boot him out along with Rick Scott, and John Kasich. Anyway, I think Walker’s recall victory gave Republicans a false sense of security on a national level. While WI was relucant to boot Walker out, they sure gladly voted for Tammy Baldwin over the long time stewart - Tommy Thompson - and voted for Obama, even with Paul Ryan on the ticket.

The Secretary of State should have some experience in that field, no?

She can be Secretary of Pretending to run for for President while endorsing losers like John McCain and Sharron Angle.

Or if she would actually be interested in returning to action (which I wouldn’t bet on), Energy Secretary or something else in her wheel house.

If she’s interested in diplomacy I would suggest Ambassador to Canada, that would REALLY piss off the Canadian left who accused Paul Cellucci of acting like a “Proconsul” or “Viceroy”.

He does yes. I’m not worried about him though (knock on wood), they seem to be flouncing around for a candidate.
