George W. Bush: Great President, even finer man

Eric Golub

BURLINGTON, Vt., April 29, 2013 — The George W. Bush Presidential Library is now living history. The Southern Methodist University campus will house some of the most important documents spanning one of the most consequential periods in American history.

Mr. Bush, affably known by nicknames “43,” “Dubya,” and “The Dub,” entered office after a disputed election. His first few months saw him ram through supply-side tax cuts that turned around a slowing economy he “inherited” from his predecessor. Despite a NASDAQ collapse of over 90 percent, Bush did not spend one minute complaining about his circumstances or blaming anybody else. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work. His promise upon taking office was to “restore honor and dignity to the White House.” After eight years of endless scandals during the prior administration, he did exactly that.

On September 11, 2001, radical Islamists from al Qaeda hijacked American airplanes and flew them into the two World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. A fourth plane destined for the White House was diverted when brave passengers took the plane back. United 93 would crash in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. New York was ground zero of a war America never asked or. Yet after almost four decades of presidents unwilling or unable to take the fight overseas, President George W. Bush launched a Global War on Terror.

He left office with toxic poll numbers, but has seen a revival as Americans come to appreciate and respect the hard choices he made during the toughest of times.

The left always hated him, felt he stole the 2000 election, and never gave him the decency and respect that an American leader deserves. Yet an honest look...

Great compared to Obama, perhaps, but not very good, otherwise. The Bush family has done great damage to the GOP brand (not that others haven't done their damage, mind you). It is time to move on from the Bush/Rove/neocons that are running the part into the ground - or, we need a new party that bypasses those folks.

Do you think Bush and our government did not know Obama was a fraud? They were in office and did NOTHING to save this country from an illegal, communist regime change. Might not have been much of a change after all.

Congratulations! Brilliant caption...perfect for the photo!

From PJ Tattler:

And the Grand Prize of priceless PR goes to smoothsailing with a hilarious caption perfectly depicting the “conversation” and facial expressions of both George and Laura.

Bush : “Laura, why is he looking down and reading?”

Laura: “Because I spray painted his teleprompter, Dear.”

Congratulations to smoothsailing! After a few more winners you too could achieve “Caption King” status.

Thanks again for playing along and we will see you all next time a photo is worthy of a Tatler Photo

Good piece.

George W. Bush is the best president we’ve had in the last 23 plus years. He had to respond to an attack on our homeland and he responded to it forcefully and with honor.

Those who say he is responsible for the president we now have are blinded by their hatred of him. We now have the Muslim sympathizer president because of John McCain and the Republican establishment.

George W. Bush was a good president and is a fine man.

Bullshit. A majority of American voters is why we have Barack Obama. Similarly a majority or pluralityof American voters elected FDR, JLBJ, Jimmy Carter and William Jefferson Clinton. Such is life when you live in a socialist country.

No ammo today?

Funny you'd mention that, I went to two of my favorite gun shops tonight, one actually had .223 and 5.56 ammo in abundant supply. Also had plenty of 9mm and the ever popular for plinking 22LR.

Bought 500 rounds of 5.56 at 45 cents a round today. Try finding that price online. (Last I looked, best price was still over 70 cents/rd - if you could find it.)

Talking to a few of the folks who worked at one of those gun shops, they're saying the last few weeks have seen a slow down in the run on ammo right at a time supplies (at least for these two shops) is starting to increase.

Hate? No. But to overlook Bush’ failures to stand up for YOU - yes, YOU, and all of US, with his tepid new tone, is to over look perhaps the second most important job of a President: the use of the bully pulpit. He really SUCKED at that.

George W. Bush, terrible president, lover of Big Government and member of a political dynasty. Anybody who repeats the phrase “doing the jobs Americans won’t do” 60,000 times while he was president and creates a federal domestic military force that buys ammo by the billions isn’t a fine man.

Yes, conservatives should hold him in contempt for coining a new, nauseating, stupid platitude to push far left immigration policies.

Bush did a few good things. Altio may turn out to be the best. I think we can look forward to decades of brilliant dissents from Samuel Alito once Hillary replaces Scalia and Kennedy.

But on immigration he was absolutely worthless for most of his Presidency. Not only did he talk like a liberal, he championed amnesty and huge increases in legal immigration, both of which were guaranteed to to hasten the demographic doomsday for the GOP. In that way he was a role model for Rubio.

After 9-11 Bush could have rallied the country around conservative comprehensive immigration reform. We could have ended mass immigration. We could have gotten serious about border and interior enforcement. We could have abolished Ted Kennedy’s absurd Diversity Visas. We could have ended chain migration. We could have ended our asylum and refugee policies. He could have been the guy who halted the overwhelmingly pro-Democrat, immigration-driven demographic shifts.

But instead we were cursed with a guy who coins absurd excuses for illegal immigration, a guy who explained his liberalism on immigration in part to his growing up with a Mexican nanny!

Also, it should be remembered that Bush was also worthless on racial preferences. Oh sure he claimed to be against quotas (who doesn’t?), but when the University of Michigan case was before the Sup Court he let Alberto Gonzales embrace the left wing idea that achieving diversity is a compelling state interest. If you embrace that, then preferences are pretty much inevitable as they are the only way to achieve the type of diversity our elites want. Bush could have gone hard against preferences and tried to deal a severe blow to the Diversity Cult, but instead he went left. Some believe that his administration’s pro-Diversity stance was key in influencing the terrible Sandra Day O’Connor.

I sometimes wonder if people like Bush ever, just once, stopped to think about the collision between racial preferences and unending mass immigration. With Bush I’m sure the answer is no.

"George W. Bush was a good president and is a fine man."

You must also think he and his intelligence agents knew nothing about what destruction an ineligible communist would bring to a nation they supposedly love.

They were in power. His oath of office includes protecting us from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. He was President and did NOTHING. A fine man does not betray his own nation as Bush has his.

Your sarcastic comment is correct when reversed. As I recall, Juan did all in his power to throw the election to the Dems. He even thought that picking a highly-unlikely person as his Veep, one who was too out-of touch with his idea of America (from Alaska, for heaven's sake!) would assure the Pub-party's defeat. 2 cents.

Revival of the Bush-bots with this library I see.

Its all Karl Roves fault
Its all the Dems fault
Its all the MSMs fault
Its all Carter and Clintons fault
Its congressional Republ;icans fault
And last ‘its your fault’

Bushbot rule #1 :The more excuses for the disaster the better the presidency must have been, as long as he's GOP.
