An armed man hijacked a Capital Metro transit bus Saturday afternoon and led police on a 30-mile chase from Austin to Bastrop before pulling the bus over and killing himself, police say. The man had boarded the bus about 4:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of Thaxton Road in Southeast Austin. He forced the driver and all of the passengers off the bus at gunpoint before taking the wheel of the bus and heading east.
At some point, police spotted the bus and began to pursue it. They headed east on Highway 71 as police several times tried to get the driver to pull over. When he refused, police say they put down road spikes that deflated the tires of the bus. After about 30 miles, the man pulled the bus over in an Auto Zone parking lot, police say. As officers surrounded the bus, they say they heard a shot. The man was dead, officers say, of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police would not release the mans identity.
The bus thief didn't hurt anyone but himself.
“Police would not release the mans identity.”
either illegal or Holder’s peeps, maybe muzzie
If it’s Austin or Bastrop, its gotta be a “D” nut.
Well... At their motto goes: “Let’s keep Austin Weird”.
Am I the only one that finds it odd that in so amny incidents that when the LEO’s close in the perp kills themselves.
In most cases, I don't find it odd at all..The actors in many of these cases were mentally unstable before any major incidents such as, shooting up malls, stealing buses, etc.
What I can’t figure out is why they go to all that trouble and expend the effort to hijack something, take hostages, then shoot themselves.
If they want to kill themselves, why don’t they just do it in their beds when they wake up, instead of going through all of that?
