Fact Check: Marco Rubio Distorts His Bill During Rush Limbaugh Interview
Numbers USA ^ | Apr. 19, 2013 | Chris Chmielenski,

If the Senate is going to pass the Gang of Eight's amnesty bill in the 113th Congress, they're going to need Marco Rubio to sell it to his Republican colleagues. After the bill's introduction yesterday morning, Rubio began his sales pitch last night by appearing on Mark Levin's radio program. But the big sell came today when he tried to convince Rush Limbaugh. Unfortunately for Rubio, Limbaugh didn't bite even with his distorted details.

Yesterday, Rubio's staff began an aggressive campaign to dispel any myths that were circulating in the mainstream media. Given his staff's attention to the details of the bill, we thought we should return the favor by providing the same kind of scrutiny to his defense of the bill to Rush Limbaugh. Here's what we found...

For starters, Rubio did an about-face from an earlier appearance on Limbaugh's program. On January 29, 2013, he said:

If, in fact, this bill does not have real triggers in there, if there is not language in this bill that guarantees that nothing else will happen unless these enforcement mechanisms are in place, I won't support it.

Now that the bill's out, we know that it legalizes most of the 11-18 million illegal aliens before any enforcement provisions kick in. Rubio didn't deny it.

We don't want to wait on legalizing, and I'll tell you why, and my original position was that we wanted to secure the border first and then legalize. The problem is we have millions of people here now, by some estimates 10, 11 million. We want to know who they are and freeze the problem in place. I don't want that number to grow.

After the Limbaugh interview, and after the Gang of Eight's afternoon press conference, Rubio delivered a passionate speech defending his bill on the Senate floor. In it, he pressed for a lengthy and open process so all 92 Senators not in the Gang can learn what's in the bill. In the end, Rubio may end up regretting that statement.

All thru this proccess Rubio has talked the talk, but his implied actions as a Gang of Eight member have not comported with his words.

IMO his talk is salve for his Team Party supporters and nothing more.

It doesn't matter one iota how much border control is in his bill because it will be enforced the same as the border control in the current law... meaning ZERO enforcement.

He definitely distorted his bill. He has proven himself to be a useful idiot for the Progressive Democrats and is clearly easily manipulated by them. He is certainly no Ted Cruz.

On the Rush show Rubio sounded like a kid caught stealing. The stress was showing. He was talking extremely rapidly and making excuses and “explanations” a mile a minute. I think he realizes he has now blown whatever possibilities that may have existed for him to be win, as a conservative, the Republican presidential nomination in the 2016 election.

He may try to redeem himself in future years, but he may well be beyond redemption since he has shown himself to be so untrustworthy. Rush seemed sad as he interviewed him and probably realized that Rubio was self destructing before him.

Rubio is worse than Toomey.

Still trying to sell his load of cr@p, with ‘best intentions’.

Rubio can kiss any national office good-bye as far as I’m concerned. Let him be only the Floridians’ headache.

Too bad Rush won’t be on to talk about this today. I heard Rubio on the program yesterday. He was weak. Rush seemed to be disappointed in what he was hearing.

Unless I am mistaken that legalization that happens immediately is similar to what Obama did by exec order, they get a temporary probation type visa not the Green card.

If the plan is amnesty then I would expect it to do this, submit volunteers to a background check with no promises attached.

Much of what Rubio says sounds like BS I listed in other pings, is there actually a bill to read?

Makes me think he owes someone a BIG favor.

I think the marathon bombing will change the conversation on immigration.

I was there as well Joe, and like you he is gone as far as I am concerned. The Limbaugh interview may very well be the death for this piece of crap legislation. Naturally, the goings on in Boston in the last 24 hours will also be a big factor in it going down.

One other questions that is bothering me tremendously is why did the FBI hold off for 24 hours of releasing what we know was released to certain media outlets of these two?

Did Obama delay that so he could dominate the airwaves to express his indignation to the bouncing of his weapons bill?

It is a shame. He had so much potential. Clearly, he has become a DC stooge. His only saving grace will be to withdrawal his support during debate due to inherent flaws. I don’t expect that, as DC politicians will never admit they were wrong.

As another poster mentioned, Ted Cruz has basically destroyed Rubio’s initial basis as a national leader. As much as I like Rubio overall, Cruz has shown himself to be a stronger conservative, more bold, more brave, and a better communicator. He basically “Out-Rubio’d” Rubio.

Amnesty Now, Border Security/Fence in 5 years. ...maybe.

If not, we'll have a meeting.

Rubio has already changed his position on border security. Now, he is okay with that can being kicked down the road another 5 years or so.

==

I didn’t consider Rubio serious previously. If he were, all that needed to be done was use EXISTING laws. There is no need for new laws for that.

Now, he says he is for smaller government, but his proposal calls for a committee to take over border security, if Homeland Security doesn’t provide border security. Huh???

First, a new committee means bigger government, more bureaucracy.

Second, if the HSD can’t handle that, why does that massive bureaucratic boondoggle even exist?

==

Maybe, since the Boston Marathon Massacre seems to have been perpetrated by Chechnyan Islamists, that may cause the new immigration bill to be crammed up Rubio’s butt.

"Rubio was McCained, he just does not know it."

Yep, the GOPe probably loves the idea of a young, Hispanic McCain to lead the party into permanent token opposition to Democrat hegemony.

Looks like Rubio cares more about his job than the country. He’s just a typical politician now. He knows he gets his votes from the Hispanic community and rather than finding them jobs and have them work to become citizens he wants to give them a pass into our welfare system.

Spending too much time with Juan McCain can result in contraction of his illness.
