This one hasn't hit the news yet that I'm aware of. This was right next to the explosion as you can see.

Local news is reporting 60-70 dead so far and hundreds injured. They are evacuating the entire town out of fear of more explosions.

Honest...not a tinfoiler, but...do they have any idea how this fire started? I know fertilizer (and it’s dust—like grain and sugar) are exceptionally volatile. The timing of this tragic event is just scary (w/Waco anniversary this week.)

There have been some extremely high winds and lightening in that area this afternoon. I haven’t heard anything official but I wouldn’t be surprised if that may be the trigger.

There's gonna be a weather shift later tonight with expected wind speeds around 35mph - am hoping they get any fires put out, pronto.

As an aside, the Texas City blast where a ship load of fertilizer went off was on April 16, 1947. Ugh.

But he’s now famous on youtube!!! Obviously that was far more important to him than the safety of his daughter.

I don’t think he could have known what kind of force that explosion could have had.

Five West firefighters and a policeman, I think, were fighting the fire for about 2 hours when it blew. It is thought that they were immediately killed.

They are reporting that 60 to 70 have died, and around 200 have been injured.

So sad. West is the place people stop off to get kolaches when driving between Dallas and Austin.

There is no sense that this was anything more than an accident.

Texas City blast began with a fire aboard the SS Grankamp loaded with fertilizer(ammonium nitrate) bound for post-war Europe.

Go easy man, he was damn near 1/4 mile from it best guess. In a million years I would have never guessed that was an unsafe distance and I don’t consider myself the typical village idiot. I still can’t believe how powerful that was

He shouldn’t have had his daughter out there but I doubt he or anyone never imagine it to blow up — with that kind of force and from a distant that from appearances looked far back enough

They are now saying it will be much higher than the 60-70 numbers. A nursing home was also destroyed before they could evacuate.

Don’t make excuses for him. When you see a large fire at a chemical plant, you run and run and keep on running.

Dang, blew the little girl’s ears out.

She's saying "let's get out of here" over and over, and then "I can't hear anything." She must have been terrified. I hope she gets her hearing back. That shock wave was going much faster than the speed of sound. It hit at the same time as the explosion could be seen.

Around 60 reported dead, and many injuries.

I would imagine many of the injuries are burn victims, and that’s the worst kind of pain.

Pray PRAY!!!!

CCTV is reporting the bigger numbers and are using Waco TV feeds. I’ve seen scant a word on Fox (just a minute or two). This is massive and even Drudge just has one line.

The burning tank explodes. It’s safe to watch. I do hope we get an update. Obviously they made it out safely or we wouldn’t have the video. It’s the daughter’s hearing that is of concern after the horrific blast.

You see the fire from the view of a man and his daughter in his P/U. The fire is already huge, then it seems to get even bigger, and then it blows up. It startled me while I was watching it. The man’s daughter evidently loses her hearing and she is begging him to “get out of here.”
