My take is that Bloomberg never really cared about crime. He was in office for six months and the return of the homeless to the streets to live was evident in midtown. They are still there 12 years later. Squeegees have returned to the NJ tunnels that connect with Manhattan and I have no doubt they will return to the exits from NYC. Also, the 2008 depression has caused many people to turn to crime or at least broken down societal norms even further.
To make a long story short, I’m not surprised.
The wealthy in Manhattan not only have guns they have concealed weapons permission. Guns for thee but not for me.

This is a direct result of scrapping the rockefeller drug laws and revamping sentencing for drug crimes. Also since Coumo came in they have been closing prisons and sentencing crooks to probation and stern talking to”s instead of jail time. It will get much worse before it gets better.

Bloomberg has become the modern day version of the hapless David Dinkins. He was the mayor who was voted out of office in favor of Guiliani who came in cleaned up the mess.
