Sources Report Senate Republicans Caving on Guns
Red State ^ | 4/9/2013 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 04/10/2013 5:57:05 AM PDT by IbJensen

Sources inside the Senate tell me that the Republican Conference is scared to death of the tactics of Senators Lee, Cruz and Paul – that it is supposedly putting them in a tough spot.

Several of the Republicans are using the Manchin-Toomey compromise plan as an excuse to cave on the gun filibuster. They claim that Senators Lee, Cruz, and Paul are running ahead of the conference in their insistence on a filibuster.

What they fail to see is that the cloture vote is the vote to stop the gun legislation from passage.

Several Republican Senators intend to vote against the filibuster, but then vote against the overall bill. This is too clever by half. The GOP does not control the Senate as the GOP is want to say every time they don’t want to fight.

Their only power to block a gun control bill is to unite and filibuster.

Voting for cloture is voting for the gun control bill because, again, as the GOP reminds us, they are not in the majority. The only way to stop it is to filibuster.

Republicans do this on every major bill. They categorically refuse to provide opposition where it will do the most good for the people of the United States and the defense of the Constitution.

But they can still go home and claim they voted against gun control, even as they enable the traitors who are subverting the popular will.

This is why the Republican Party needs to be replaced. When Erick “GOP Uber Alles” Erickson is ready to admit that, he’ll take a big step in the right direction. And the Right direction as well.

With the homo-marriage republican and the doofus democrat giving FOURTY YEAR/PERMANENT RECORDS registration this is 100% disgusting.

DC Republicans can not be trusted with out civil rights.

the MSM whores are already gone. FNF this am was reporting ON A REPORTERS FAMILY while the rest of the MSM was deliviering the “just a first step” message to supporters and reporting a push poll.

National Review Online recently reported on something you didn’t hear from the lame-stream media. When Rand Paul staged his now famous 13-hour filibuster the polls showed “a 50-point shift in public opinion toward his position.”

Senator Mike Lee commented: “Once it became clear what the principle was that was being stood for, the public naturally followed.”

When Paul staged his first filibuster... we didn’t see it coming. We had no warning and we had no time to mount a campaign of support.

But now that we know what may be coming, we have no excuse not to make our voices heard and help make it happen.

The republicans in the house will fold even quicker. The filibuster is the last line of defense.

I don’t recall - when is McLame up for reelection again - is it 2014 or 2016?

Do you think JD Hayworth will run again?

Thanks!

This is the beginning of a National Gun Registry. Mark my words.
Obama will use a “State of Emergency” and Executive Order to merge the background checks into a database.

Are politicians in office to serve us or are they there to pursue their pet causes?

That's entirely up to us. If we don't DO SOMETHING, they are there to pursue their pet causes.

With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats?

Indeed. I'm now ashamed to call myself one.

Toomey, Manchin Reach Bipartisan Deal on Gun Background Checks
Wednesday, April 10, 2013 08:36 AM

By: Heidi Przybyla and James Rowley

Two U.S. senators have reached a bipartisan compromise to expand background checks of U.S. firearms purchasers that they plan to announce later today, according to a Senate aide.

Senator Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, said yesterday that he was close to a deal with Pat Toomey, a Pennsylvania Republican whose support could prove critical to saving the centerpiece of President Barack Obama’s gun agenda from defeat.

Manchin and Toomey plan to hold a news briefing at 11 a.m. today in Washington.

And that’s why there will be no debates. A plan drafted in secret will be pushed through. Inhofe will say, “This plan is the greatest affirmation of the second amendment in the history of the world because if we didn’t compromise on this plan, there would have been a plan that banned the second amendment.”

Unfortunately, we're stuck with him until 2016.

The Republicans aren’t weak, or stupid, or cowards, or spineless. They know what they are doing. They want gun control as much as their Democrat pals but they can’t be open about it. They have to maintain the illusion that they are an opposition party for their rube constituents in flyover country.

2016. Arizona will send him to the Senate until he dies. That is just the way Arizona is. Short of an incapacitating illness, he IS going to win reelection.
