'Gang of Eight' to Oppose Any Amendments to Their 1,500-Page Amnesty Bill

Just when you thought the Senate push for amnesty couldn't get any more shameful...it sets a fresh low

All the members of the “Gang of Eight” pushing so-called 'immigration reform' in the U.S. Senate will band together to block any efforts by other senators to offer amendments to their legislation once it is introduced, the Washington Post reported on Sunday.

In addition, the Post's David Nakamura reported that the forthcoming immigration bill "is expected to be around 1,500 pages long", and that the Gang of Eight “is trying to strike a deal in which all the members agree to oppose any amendments to the core provisions, even if they might agree with the amendments, people familiar with the talks said.”

“The group is concerned that if one provision is amended, the entire bill will fall apart because the deal is predicated on a comprehensive plan composed of carefully negotiated pieces,” Nakamura wrote.

So no public hearings, no amendments, and no transparency on a massive bill - another bill we have to "pass so we can find out what's in it". Sound familiar?

Meanwhile, Breitbart's Matthew Boyle reports that Sen. Marco Rubio is disputing WaPo's account:

In response to Nakamura’s article on Monday, Gang of Eight member Sen. Marco Rubio’s spokesman Alex Conant said that his description of the process being worked on is not correct. “The legislation that the eight senators are working on is only the start of the process; we expect several committee hearings, a full debate, and an open process for other senators to offer amendments.”
But as Stand With Arizona previously reported, Chairman Leahy will have none of it, and wants to rush through a bill as fast as he can once the bill is presented, betting that when push comes to shove, Rubio will get on board, lest he sees obstruction as jeopardizing his prospects for the 2016 Republican Presidential nomination.

SWA believes that the strategy of Senate Democrats is to muscle the bill through, and then put pressure on House Speaker John Boehner to permit a controversial floor vote on the bill - which could then pass with all Democrats voting for it and only a handful of Republicans - violating a longstanding precedent that Boehner has already tossed in the trash several times this year.

And Rubio looks more like a useful idiot for amnesty with each passing day.

Rubio spent all of January and February making the rounds of conservative talk shows and assuring grassroots activists that the "Gang of Eight" bill would contain "enforcement triggers" and "border security first" provisions, before any "path to citizenship" would be offered to illegal aliens.

But as soon as Rubio's assurances were uttered, his "Gang" ally, the slimy Chuck Schumer (D-NY), was dispelling them, first proclaiming that "we’re not using border security as an excuse or block to the path of citizenship"; and on Sunday pulling away Rubio's last fig leaf, declaring that "first, people will be legalized....Then, we will make sure the border is secure.”

In other words, this is an amnesty bill, plain and simple. And pay no attention to our stooge Marco Rubio, who we know will just fall in line rather than be left behind as we rush it through without any amendments or public hearings.

So it is all exposed, all the lies and deceptions. There is nothing left except one question, to Marco Rubio: "Why are you still in the 'Gang of Eight' and when will you be leaving?"

Rubio, Rubio wherefore art thou, Rubio?

Any law that is longer than what can be read and understood by the average educated citizen in five minutes or less is an attempt to hide provisions detrimental to the public.

Well, not exactly, the SUMMARY at the end of the bill is what needs to be simple, reflective and concise.

I assume you are referring to a bill itself, an act...the actual pages of legislative language...

I would posit that every bill ever considered would not fit your parameters, for if it changes a word or adds a definition, or refers to an existing statute(s) it may change the language of ten or twenty pieces of text of the existing law-books. All of those "revisions" are required to be in the bill, making it many pages longer than the actual intent.

If you go to the back page of the bill and read the summary first (hopefully in less than five minutes) it should be fairly easy to understand. Then, if you want to pull your hair out, go back and dig into the actual confusing nuts and bolts of the bill.

Almost without fail, you will see "old language" struck-out much like happens here on FR, and the "new language" underlined. Pages and pages and pages of it.

Who are the members of this “Gang of Eight?”

Rubio (R) FL
McCain (R) - AZ
Lindsey Graham (R) - SC
Jeff Flake (R) - AZ...

With two AZ Republicans in the "gang", it's hard to see why they aren't making it more like the Arizona Immigration plan.

From the Dem side, it's Schumer - NY, Menendez - NJ, Durbin - ILL, and Bennett - CO

it may take the blood of many country men to set it straight again.

I was thinking the city-men would be losing the most blood.

What I find interesting is all the open border rino backers of FR who pushed McCain and trashed J.D. Hayworth along with all freepers who opposed McCain. Blood is on their hands.

I think it goes deeper than that. There is something going on that makes republicans uninterested in widespread vote fraud and the future ability to control elections that democrats will secure with amnesty.

Well yes, we in the country do have all the guns don’t we? ;)

15 years ago I moved 15 miles out of the city. 10 years ago I moved 10 miles past that, 5 years ago 10 more miles, last year 10 more..

The city and it’s BS keep creeping my way. Soon, I’ll just pack up and leave the state.
