China has placed military forces on heightened alert in the northeastern part of the country as tensions mount on the Korean peninsula following recent threats by Pyongyang to attack, U.S. officials said.

Reports from the region reveal the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) recently increased its military posture in response to the heightened tensions, specifically North Korea's declaration of a "state of war" and threats to conduct missile attacks against the United States and South Korea.

"The chicoms will depose the chiapet. The chicoms will heap the burden of NK on SK. SK will remain loyal to the USA, but will become the chicoms’ biggest trading partner. The chicoms are not stupid. We, lead by our small minded president, are stupid.

I think you may be on to something here. I remember a few articles in the last year or so where the Chinese are terrified of a South Korea/North Korea reunification. With South Korea's massive technology base and industry(particularly shipbuilding), the thought of endless workers that could propel that country to the top economically frightens them. They may move in and just finish NK off for their own nefarious purposes.

For the record China is South Korea’s largest trading partner by a wide interest.

Should’ve taken Douglas McArthur’s advise.

I sort of agree on that one. The only thing that brings me pause is wondering how the world’s perception of nukes may have changed, had we finished the war with them and people noticed that they are not the terrible world radiating devices we were all led to believe.

IOW, it could have ended that war but created a world where nuclear weapons use was no more morally unacceptabe than carpet bombing.

Just drop a crate of MRE’s on the highest mountain in the region, and all the norks will be climbing for their life. Won’t have time for war nonsense for at least a month.

In a sense you are right. China does not want now or ever NK refugees...hence the troops on the border.

Yesterday on the SK news channels they were saying this is probably headed for war. On the nationwide news they said the actions Obama is taking will be the cause.

SK hates China. They might deal if the alternative is war but I doubt they would go into it willingly.

Kinda like we’ve done in the middle east....they are probably right.

“....after North Korea takes out rivals Japan and South Korea....”

NK cannot defeat either of those nations - even without US helping them.

They can’t defeat them, but they can destroy significant portions of them.

On Fox New .com now:

URGENT: US Navy moves USS Fitzgerald, a ballistic missile defense destroyer, closer to the Korean peninsula in what appears to be attempt to head off military conflict in the region, as White House says threats from North Korea follow ‘pattern’ but must be taken seriously.

China and South Korea have a huge amount of trade - seems like half the cars in China are Hyundais. The last thing they want is North Korea damaging one of their biggest trading partners and foreign markets. When push comes to shove, China will help the South Korean government against North Korea, though what exact form that help may take remains to be seen.

North Korea is one of the Soviet Union's old orphan dogs - though China has some relationship and influence over them, they know well enough that if young Kim slips his leash he has to be euthanized. He is too dangerous to use as a diplomatic weapon against Japan and the West.

The question should be: Will the U.S. defend Taiwan or South Korea. We cannot do both with the reduction in military spending and equipment.

This is exactly the kind of thing many conservatives predicted would happen when Obama was implausibly re-elected. The many enemies of the U.S. realize that Obama is tacitly on their side. They can see that he too hates America’s power and influence and is eager to see it severely diminished. China and it’s impoverished client, North Korea, are happy to oblige. Bad things are about to happen to South Korea and, by association, the U.S.A. Obama will allow it to happen, pretend he’s royally P.O.ed - and do nothing of substance to prevent it. The result will be a further diminished America, pushed around by a pipsqueak dictator with a bad haircut and out-maneuvered by communist China’s very serious, well-groomed dictators who know an opportunity when they see it.
