Sen. Rand Paul: Illegal immigrants should be allowed to obtain legal status

The dramatic shift in the Republican Party on immigration continued Tuesday, as Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a conservative tea party icon and possible 2016 presidential contender, endorsed an overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws that would allow the nation’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants to obtain legalized status. “Immigration will not occur until conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. That’s why I’m here today: to begin that conversation and become part of the solution,” he said in a breakfast speech Tuesday morning before the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington.

I am still in Japan... Have been here since 1998.. closest I came to being back in the states was back in 2002 (Saipan)... right before my wedding.. :p

All I see of the states any more is on the news (internet, many sources)..

And I WILL say, USA is not liked very much atm... (except the kids here that cheer Obama ... )...

A real shame... the kids here are seeing what the new media puts out (which is ALL based on ABC, CBS, NBC, the papers: LA Times, NYT, WaPa, etc...) .... Strangely enough.. anyone over about 45 years old here KNOWS that Obama is destroying USA.. and not only USA, but the rest of the world's economy with him..

Exactly.

Another thing the braintrust in the GOP should consider: The Hispanic voting bloc doesn’t exist. Americans of Cuban descent tend to vote Republican, just like Americans of Venezuelan, Colombian, Honduran, and Salvadoran descent tend to do so as well. The largest group of Hispanic voters, Americans of Mexican descent tend to vote Democrat and have done so for decades.

The closures took millions of acres collectively out of the public domain with an economic impact in the low 9 figures....so far...and counting. Tens of thousands of jobs lost too.

But didn't the compromise committee get what they wanted out of the deal? Isn't that all that really matters in the end? /s

battles with the enviro-wackos. Perhaps then they'd 'get it'.

I know it will probably never happen... but, it would be nice if we could send them to their own state to try to 'run' things the way they see fit ("Lord of the flies")..

Honestly, what will it take?!?! (frustration) .. :p

Well sure!

Actually no. The people who screamed for compromise also screamed the loudest when ‘compromise’ took effect.

See National Mountain Bike Association/Sierra Club for details.

They were all for compromise. It meant no evil 4x4s to clog ‘their’ trails. But the bans included many of them since they were mechanical conveyance.

OOPS!!!

By now I’m sure they compromised another deal. But at the time they spazzed.

Heck, they're already running things the way they like in the deep blue states, but shhhhh.....they don't like it when we talk about that.

Sorta like the spaz attacks we're seeing around here, eh? They're convinced that we would have 'won' if more of us had compromised our principles like they did.

We could'a been a contendah, dammit!

There’s a thin line between Libertarianism and anarchy.

About 10 years ago, I called my father (RIP), .. I asked him what Libertarianism was... the best way to describe what he explained to me IS 'anarchy'..

I continue to think that the status quo is turning America into the democratic party

I say it is turning America into Sodom.

Conservatives in the Republican Party are the equivalent of Black People in the Democrat Party. Their votes are taken for granted so the Republican Establishment gives them platitudes and then delivers nothing in return.

I have come to the conclusion that the Democrats are correct when they call the Republican Party the "Party of the Rich." The Republican party establishment is entirely controlled by Corporate Contributions and corporate interests, who could give a damn about anything remotely conservative. Capitalism has been replaced by Corporatism. These Corporations WANT big government. They want it because they control it. Money is the driving force behind the Republican Party establishment and Tea Party people are just people and they don't control the purse strings of the powers that be. The Republican party bows to corporate interests and those conflict with the small government goals of common, every day tea party members like you and me.

Watching how quickly the dems dropped DiFi's "assault weapons ban," shows me something very clear - all of those so-called polls that made "GOP leaders" so quick to bend over and grab their ankles, that they were lies, pure and simple.

If we were to believe the polls, everyone in American wanted most guns banned, right.

Now, even the dems on the committee wouldn't even vote it out of their committee, much less bring it up to the entire Senate, which they control the lion's share of votes!

I daresay, should someone on the Senate decide to push for a Gay Marriage Bill, it, too, wouldn't make it out of committee for fear that those same dens claiming to demand the courts overturn DOMA, won't stand up and vote to overturn it.

They know they will lose their seats just as if they vote FOR Amnesty yet the idiot Republicans go along with that ruse as though they'll gain seats by voting for any of this stuff!

You need to stop living in the past

Are you serious?! Haven't you ever learned that, "History Repeats Itself"..?!?

What are you trying to tell us... that past, failed government will 'work this time'?

Of course there should be a possible “path to citizenship” for non-citizens. Perhaps a very difficult path, but a path. We are a nation of (legal) immigrants.

I agree it is a horrible mistake but it was made 20 years ago and now we have not the strength to undo it.

Believe me I wish we did have time to teach all theses people English and integrate them into our culture & economy properly.

What we have is what we have, we can either find a way to live with it or die from it.
