STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin and her family had to leave town during the juvenile rape trial because of threats made against both her and her family.

Sunday evening, Hanlin confirmed that threats had been made, and she found them to be credible. Hanlin said there were instances of threats before, but the number of threats of a specific nature grew.

"As the trial date grew closer, we received a number of them that seemed to be more credible than others," Hanlin said.

Welcome to the New Normal, where the rapists get all the sympathy from the liberals. You are just not tolerating their culture properly.

It's getting bad in this country.

My husband and I were watching prime time TV tonight...show after show of the crudest sexual content you’ve ever seen. It would be considered soft porn a decade ago.. Now, it’s routine. Women are shown as sex objects, nameless, faceless bodies that hop in and out of men’s beds without any feeling or intimacy. Music videos and popular culture show women as whores, shown only as the sexual objects they represent to men and referred to in the most crudest of ways, not only by men, but by other women!
And then we are shocked, horrified to see young men doing exactly what they’ve witnessed for most their lives without shame or remorse...and we wring our hands and asks how could this happen. TURN ON YOIR DAMN TV.. LOOK AT WHAT YOUR CHILDREN ARE WATCHING 24/7... I am 54 years old..I don’t consider myself a prude, but sometime I blush at what I see during what’s marketed as FAMILY HOUR TV. It never ends.
Every show is about sex...even the Church women who used to
Protest these things have given up. We have done this to ourselves. So it’s a bit disingenuous to act all self righteous now.

“I’ve heard a lot about how horrid the boys were in this case and a lot of apologists for the girl and her disgraceful conduct.”

Two guys rape a girl and you felt...what? That it wasn’t horrid? Would you have felt different if, say, the girl was mentally challenged, and didn’t understand what the guys were doing to her?

Here is my take on this: rape is not just sex but violence agaisnt another person, male or female. There is no excuse for young men or boys to do such a thing no matter whether the person was drunk or mentally challenged.

We should be rearing our boys to be the kind of men who are protective of the weaker members of our society, not men who take advantage of the weaker.

we did not do it to ourselves; the twisted writers in Hollywood appealed to men’s basest instincts and since most of them think constantly about sex, there you have it.

Thanks for that graphic. What do we expect when we have Planned Parenthood and other groups teaching our kids that sex is just for recreation and has no real consequences. And our bodies are just objects for pleasure. And humanity has no real dignity and can be discarded when inconvenient in the womb. And now speaks louder about discarding it after birth or when old and inconvenient. In a culture of death isn’t this what we can expect to see more of?

There is absolutely no joy in this case. If anything this sort of atrocity occurs regularly and is rarely prosecuted. Think of what happens to urban young girls subjected to the tender mercies of gangs and homies. Rap lyrics tell all you need to know.Sadly such decadence is no longer rare in America and this trial is shocking only because there was an actual prosecution.

They’d be blaming the girl if she’d been murdered, too.

The fact is, one of the parties took place at Hanlin’s home, and then she attempted to discourage the girl and her family from making a report. She also got the case moved to juvenile court before she bothered to resign for conflict of interest.

since when is it okay for young men to act like animals???? I am appalled at those who have defended these heathens. Sons should be taught to respect women and the value of waiting until marriage for sex. All those who want to say everyone does it or the girl was drunk or boys will be boys should be horse whipped. Our society has devolved into a nihilistic state where fidelity is not valued, relationships and commitments are not honored, babies are slaughtered because they are too young....It is horrendous.

Do not defend these disgusting animals

I haven’t paid attention to this case, so the name Hanlin isn’t familiar to me.

But I’ve noticed there is usually a reflexive action to protect boys who do such crimes, particularly if they’re involved in competitive sports.

This is not always the case but it happens often enough to be immortalized in fiction and movies.

Hildy, I agree completely.

About 2005, I turned in my cable T.V. and never looked back. I had my computer and could watch the shows that I wanted to watch, when I wanted to watch, and avoid the annoying commercials. (I would occasionally miss the robotic remote-control clicking, but not by much). I also realized that there was this thing called Outside, and I meant to get me a larger chunk of it (for sanity and health).

When I would go to my sisters' for the holidays, and they would have T.V. on, I was horrified (and, like you, no prude) at the state of what passed/passes for the New Normal Ratings and Content. Horrified.

I don't mind at all, salty language and salty situations, but F-bomb this and F-bomb that and the Seven-Things-You-Can't-Say-On-T.V. are now the new normal? When did that happen? Even those annoying commercials are even more annoying, emasculating, and filled with drivel.

Sigh. When children, teenagers, and college kids are fed a steady diet of pablum, racism, ignorance, greed, envy, sloth, rage and anger, reverse racism, sexism, misogyny, misandry, glorification of homosexuality and deviant behaviors, the destruction of morality and ethics, the championed destruction of marriage and family, the emasculation of men and boys, and the conspicuous and intentional absence of anything related to morals, ethics, personal responsibility, personal accountability, and God-- it is no wonder that T.V. is a great and terrible factor in the destruction of Western civilization.

No role models, no teaching right from wrong, no rational actors/politicians/newsmen and women/men and women of the cloth/etc., standing up and fighting for what's right in this country, our culture, language, and institutions.

And history will record that we did it to ourselves.

No, Hildy’s right. People just don’t want to accept the fact that theough their Dish and cable payments every month, they empowered all the crap coming out of Hollywood and the MSM.

That’s a fact. Because if everyone didn’t send that 50-100 bucks a month, there WOULD BE NO MSM or crap to put on TV.

And yes, it is that simple. I gave up TV in 2000. I have not missed it. What I did do was gain a lot more knowledge through reading, entertainment through learning music and other more sane diversions.

But as long as people can keep watching Football and every other Liberal pushing bit of crap, they will deny it, tolerate it and yet complain about the very thing they themselves fund.

Does not really matter if she was a “slut” or not. The 16 year old girl was drugged, dragged from house to house and gang raped. Consent was not an option since she was not conscience during the attack. The behavior of these “boys” is beyond despicable. Those defending the “boys” are uncivilized shameless degenerates.

You have a hard time believing something?

Does that offer any insight into the actual facts of what happened?

No.

My take would be...and to me this is common sense...a person who is so impaired they are like “falling down drunk” could very well realize that they are being raped, attacked in ways other than rape, whatever the case, while at the same time they can’t muster the normal brain cells to respond appropriately and in self-defense.

Can’t get into her mind and know what she knew at the time, but knowing is different from being capable of doing something appropriately defensive about it.

Ever heard of the date rape drug?

Hmmmmm?

However... The girl was a slut IMHO.

Maybe, maybe not. (I don't know her, and reputations are fragile things oft destroyed by mere rumor).

Regardless, she has the right to remain unmolested, and that right should be presumed in the absence of her express desires otherwise.

One of the last defenses (or perhaps the first) of the rapist is to call a woman a slut, which relies on social condemnation to disregard that sluts have rights, too.

"My question was to the poster who made the comment that the girl was a slut."

IMHO no 16 year old girl is a "slut". I think it takes many years of slutty behavior to earn that title. 16 year olds often make bad decisions and turn out fine. Hopefully she will too.

Nót really. Competency is an important legal concept and these exact scenarios are a familiar topic in crim law. Tort too. Bottom line, its about consent. If a person can’t or won’t give consent, for any reason, its rape. Drugs and alcohol are well known to impair judgement, and without capacity for ordinary good judgment, you can’t assign consent. This is true even if the impairment is just being a little too young. You can have a fully aware person who actually wants to participate, but the law will deem their judgment impaired by their youth, making consent a legal impossibility. Statutory rape. So this is why the defense was trying to find some point on the drunkenness spectrum where he could claim she was not yet impaired. He needed that to get consent. Apparently that strategy was unsuccessful.
