Disabled 13-year-old Brooklyn girl hurled off moving bus by bully
Daily News ^ | March 13, 2013

A bully tossed a disabled girl out of the back door of a moving school bus and straight into the path of oncoming traffic — an attack that easily could have ended in death.

Two matrons were on the bus dealing with a ruckus, but neither was able to protect Amore-Virginia Peterson, 13, on Friday. She said that when she slammed into the pavement she thought she “was going to die” — but she managed to scramble out of the road before she was hit by the cars bearing down on her.

The bipolar sixth-grader suffered a broken collarbone and was rushed from the scene in an ambulance.

Exactly. We joke about it but I would not be surprised if the matrons claimed it wasn’t their job to deal with violence on the bus, or that all they were supposed to do was radio the police. Get paid $40K a year + lifetime benefits to sit on a bus twice a day and not have to do anything.

Sure. What about the fallacy that the poster's perception of the mother's attitude was a mitigating factor in her daughter being thrown off a bus into moving traffic?

That should go without debate? That isn't fallacious?

It seems the reaction of the mother is a lot more reasonable than what a lot of FReepers are suggesting should be done or what they would do if their daughter were thrown off a moving bus into traffic.

why are mothers sending their kids to government schools?

THis girl, it’s March, this girl has been dealing with this criminal for six months or more now. She’s thirteen. Has she been tuned into the fact that the boy’s been making sexual advances toward her daughter, this murderer?

Why won’t these women just quit their jobs, become consumers, refuse to overpay (become family financial managers again), not marry idiots who will leave them, and just take care of their children.

she needs to quit her stupid job and spend the next period of her life going after this guy for attempted murder and probably attempted rape, at least sexual assault.

This girl was terrorized as was every kid on that bus.

Who the hell is taking care of these kids??

NO one is taking care of these kids.

I didn’t say she ‘deserved’ anything. I’m just saying, that with the concerns I’ve noted, it would bear well to get the facts before hanging the ‘accused’ off the bridge by his ding-a-ling...for all I know she coulda been beating up on him and they ended up in the back of the bus with her trying to throw him off and she got thrown out instead. This story reeks of incomplete information.

Soon, language will be utterly useless.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'

The article doesn’t say much about the attacker.
Must be because his mama isn’t complaining to the media and the school is not allowed to talk.

I suspect this is a “short bus” incident.
As in, a bus-full of ‘special’ kids that got out of control.
Maybe both the victim and the attacker are “disabled.”
That’s why they’re keeping the police off the boy.
Because he’s ‘special’, too.

Sadly if the Matron intervened and now could claim injury she would get a check for life.
I apply tomorrow.

'You are a “bully” if you through a person off a moving buss in to traffic, and you are “disabled” if you are bi-polar?'

Plot to the movie, "Dumb and Dumberer":
'...this ill-conceived prequel follows the Carrey/Daniels characters, Lloyd and Harry, as they bungle their way through high school. The principal and his demented lunch lady have hatched a scheme to embezzle funds intended for students with "special needs," and Harry & Lloyd unwittingly recruit a few "intellectually challenged" classmates to fuel the plot.'

Government schools have to bring in the dollars one way or another!

Maybe these feral yoots were riding the really short bus.

In children the problem is usually rapid-cycles. Several very abrupt changes of mood in 10 minutes is not fun to witness. I assume it’s not fun to experience, either.

How about arrested for assault and battery and attempted murder?

Is protective coloration involved?

So if they quit their jobs, and go on welfare, you’d be ok with that?

And as someone who married an “idiot who left me”, I can say that it isn’t always possible to predict that. I married a “Christian” Eagle scout who was active in our Baptist church, and who claimed to not believe in divorce. I don’t feel it’s my fault that he went off the beam.

Question answered. Had the perp been white there would be hate crime charges pending.

My complaint is that being dipolar is a mental disorder, and not a “disability” that would matter as regards this story.

They made it sound like he threw a wheel-chair bound kid out of the bus.

Believe it or not, once, I was a child. Back then, there wasn't ADHD or dyslexia. They stuck all those kids in one class for retards. I'm not trying to be offensive by using the term retard but that is what is was called but it was changed when I went to Jr. High to Special Ed.

I've seen a lot of kids who act like you describe, even myself. I know bipolar is real but sorry, I don't buy it in a little kid.

All the parents who had kids with 'special needs' were happy when autism and dyslexia were discovered. No longer was their kid retarded, now they were special needs and like most things parents and teachers do, they made it worse. They stick the special needs kids in with regular students, I forgot the term but it's not fair to the other kids to have to slow down the class because of one student.

When I went to school, I was always the first one done and read out loud perfectly, but they never called on me or others like me. No, they had the worst reader read aloud. It didn't help them read but it sure embarrassed them. Most teachers are useless, when you are at the top of the curve, it must threaten them so they try to take it out on the kids. I could count on one hand the teachers that were great at what they did from kindergarten to college. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Apparently, disability means being dependent on something to be normal. So most poor people are disabled, because without their government “medication”, they would not survive.

Also, is it a minority thing that the bus requires two “matrons”? In our school district, there’s just the bus drivers. The kids know not to throw each other off the bus, and we don’t spend thousands of dollars on baby-sitters.

1) Welfare, in a case like this, is an idiot who will leave them

2) Marrying with full expectation of not being abandoned is certainly not marrying an idiot. It’s marriage in this time. Men leave their families with no social stigma.

Women are supposed to marry a provider. It’s a concept, which, until it comes back, we will have this trouble.

True. That's what I thought when I first saw the headline, too.

It sounds like she attends a special school for disabled kids, and the bus was from that school. That’s why there were two matrons.

And my guess if the boy who did this is probably more severely mentally disabled, and maybe doesn’t have normal control over his actions, and is in fact dangerous. But we have to educate everybody, so all the kids on the disabled bus are at risk.

A local issue here is school class size, largely because it dumps into classrooms violent, crazy, even homicidal kids who terrorize the other kids and make learning impossible. Good liberals dump these dangerous kids into the public schools, then send their kids to private schools that have strict rules and armed guards.
