Rep. Greg Meeks will head up a U.S. delegation attending the funeral Friday of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, a decision by President Barack Obama that is drawing attention because of the congressmans previous ties to Chávez.
Former Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Bill Delahunt is also part of the U.S. funeral delegation. Like Meeks, Delahunt drew criticism in 2005 for meeting the Venezuelan dictator to discuss a deal for discounted heating oil to help low-income residents of Massachusetts.

Protocol demands that the ambassador attend and that he send a nice letter to the family. Other than that nothing should be done for that zip wad. Are we not short of money?

I’d just as soon they send nobody at all. But a powerless Congressman and ex-Congressman are about as unimpressive a delegation as you can send.

Hey, Jesse Jackson is there, that sounds pretty impressive to me.

Has anyone ever stopped to think that, if reports from ex-ambassador from Panama Guillermo Cochez are true, Chavez died on
December 30th but his death was made to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the death of Stalin?

Will the usual gaggle of hollywood whores be accompanying him on a government plane, or will Penn, Spacey, Glover, Stone and the others each be traveling by private, carbon spewing jet?

I have just heard that Jesse Jackson, Jr., plans to go, not his father.
Is Jimmy Carter staying away? Hard to see why he would.

Is Sean Penn already there?

Yup, they pickled and stuffed the fat bastard and waited until 4:25 PM to say he died.
I’d be willing to bet that his commie hero died at that exact time too.

Pork Parade: Former Members Eat from Both Sides of the Trough

The New York Times last week reported former Rep. William Delahunt (D-MA), now heading a lobbying firm, will be paid from an earmark he pushed through while still in Congress. The Times quoted experts in federal earmarking as saying they could not recall a case in which a former lawmaker stood to benefit so directly from an earmark he had authorized.
