FReeper cgk used to maintain a local, state, regional and miscellaneous lists of those who kept ping lists here. That was almost five years ago. cgk hasn't started a thread in four years or made a comment in two years.
I have made a ping list for every state except Rhode Island. It's on my homepage here.
In the two months or so of making it I haven't seen anybody hailing from Rhode Island when I clicked on their screen name.
I compiled screen names mostly from comments on my threads. It's in alphabetical order except NY. That's for my convenience, although it is separate and is identified as such.
Although they are not explicitly labelled, scan the list of screen names about a dozen names from the start of that state's list, if the list is long enough. It becomes fairly obvious.
I started it a while ago with NJ & PA, two of my neighboring states. I gradually expanded it to a few other states.
I have kept the freepers named in cgk's states lists. It starts after my combined microbiology/immunology ping list.
With the pitiful condition of our BS media that ignores so many stories, I thought a list of 48 states, minus NY and RI, that you could copy conveniently would be handy for really important stories. We're on the honor system. It's not for chat. It's for real news or important history in any state as well.
If you want to be added to or removed from your state's list, please FReepmail me.
yours truly, neverdem
If you are a FReeper in Rhode Island, please let me know.
Thx for the work.
BUMP for great freeping. Thanks for doing this.
Google search:Good Luck! Good work! ;-)
Your search - "Rhode Island" AND live OR work OR travel site:freeerepublic.com - did not match any documents.
Great to know that there are a good handful of us FR’s Conservatives in the Bluest (with commie Red inside) state of MA!
I’m very curious though how it works. I see groupings of FR handles separated by “;”s, ready to go into the post “TO:” field via cut-n-paste, but without a state identifier.
How manual or automated is it when these lists are used? What’s the mechanism to grab, say, the Nth group representing state XX? Can a list be used by anyone wanting to post to the current ping list of a particular state?
Just guessing there is probably an automagic way to put an abbreviated pointer into a post or reply to use it...
Lol. At this point you can click on my state flag! Never thought I’d see the day! but prob better to do by your own account, then hit the prototype link at the top. There are some great nooks and crannies here.
Rats just deleted whole msg. Freep mail info confirmed. Good effort.
Sorry, but to me your list is confusing.
My name appears twice but in neither case am I identified as the caretaker of the South Carolina list.
May I make a suggestion: two columns, state abbreviation followed by screen name, like this:
I’m in Illinois but I really don’t want to be on any state ping lists.
take a look there
RI members of Freeper
This gets into privacy (and etiquette) issues, but this information comes from a Freeper setting his/her “location” in preferences, thus some prefer to list “United States” instead of pinpointing.
At top of page, click on “Account”
scroll down to “My Locale”
that gives a hyperlink list of states and locations.
RI shows 75 Freepers currently. Clicking on the state gives the state bulletin board: http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/profiles?location=87
State boards are great way to spread news of state and local interest, but it’s not private. Some bds are obviously more active currently than others, but times are changing.
heh, earlier delete was heartbreaking!
At the top of the state page is the hyperlink with the members list info, by state/location (eg, United States, Colombia, etc).
In this case, RI: http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/profiles2?m=member-list;location=87
Again, this is set by individual members at their preference from their HOMEPAGE self-set info (stressing that is under individual control).
Problem is, you have obsessive posters like seekthetruth who think they alone have the only important information on FR, then spams *every* State message board, not just his/her State of Residence.
A lot of Freepers don’t want dozens of messages wasting their time every day so they remove their State flag.
Compare Rhode Island and Florida message boards for an example.
Ever notice how one person ruins things for everyone else?
Add me to the Tennessee list please.
-OR- at bottom of your home page, scroll to bottom to “You can edit this page”, and can set your location for anywhere from there.
And you have thereby let a freeper know the problem and why, and this is how a problem can be resolved.
With the problems loading pages, I optioned out of having state msgs listed at top of my pages.

THANKS for a wonderful website with all its features and possibilities. John, I don’t remember ever meeting you, but thanks so much for all you’ve done over the years, esp with the recent challenges to the hamster habitat. I hope all is well with you and yours. Ya’ll stay well over there, and take care. ~ cyn
I am doing the VA ping list
I never opted in but when I enrolled in the Illinois board, I was getting pages and pages of copy and paste messages every day. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get off that message board but I did accidentally find out how to change my location to what it is now (The Congo) no spam mile long messages since.
Concerning ping lists, it was my belief that you don't put anybody on one unless they asked to be on it. I am constantly getting on someones ping list and I have only ever asked to be on one.
I asked a poster once (by private mail) to remove me and she refused, saying that everybody who replies on any thread she posts gets put on her list and if I didn't want on her list, to not reply anymore on her posted threads.
She finally removed me after I embarrassed her a few times on threads she posted and pinged me to.
There's just one ping list I want to be on and I'm already on it.
I don’t get a lot of comments on my tag line but this makes it easy to read:
Bump. Thank you neverdem. Great work!
Somehow, you were on the list already. Thanks anyway. I appreciate the courtesy.
I don't need it. You're on it. That's sufficient. Thanks for the feedback.
Rhode Island Freeper list.. at least those that claim to be
Ever notice how one person ruins things for everyone else?
So True . . . So True . . .
A lot of Freepers dont want dozens of messages wasting their time every day so they remove their State flag.
You can still fly your state flag and turn off the message board notification and then you’ll never ever get a notice of new messages. You’ll have to periodically check the state board if you are interested in reviewing the messages.
I didn’t intend for that last post to you to be a “private reply” but there you are anyway.
Would help if you added the State Name above each group.
Would also help the Page Formatting if you added a Space behind each semi-colon; that way the lines don’t run the width outside of the window boundaries.
Doubt I’ll use them; P.O.E. and Kid Shelleen run the two lists for PA, so I notify them as necessary. Thanks.
Thanks could be useful.
I deliberately didn't want to make it obvious for the same reason that most people probably don't want to indicate their state. It's alphabetical including Rhode Island now except NY. Some Canadians are added at the end now, next the Anglosphere.
Would also help the Page Formatting if you added a Space behind each semi-colon; that way the lines dont run the width outside of the window boundaries.
Thanks for the tip. I'll try that on one of my shorter lists first.
I am guilty of spreading information and have learned to stop posting on state boards.
Presently only posting to my friends in Florida.
