'Actor Richard Briers, best known for his role in TV's The Good Life, has died at the age of 79, his agent has said.
The star, who was also an accomplished stage actor, had been battling a serious lung condition for several years.
Briers died "peacefully" at his London home on Sunday, his agent said. Briers recently said years of smoking had been to blame for his emphysema.
Famed for his role as the hapless Tom Good in the 1970s BBC sitcom The Good Life, Briers also starred in shows such as Ever Decreasing Circles, Monarch Of The Glen and Doctor Who.
He also appeared in many films, most recently in British comedy film Cockneys versus Zombies, plus a cameo role in Run For Your Wife, based on Ray Cooney's 1980s stage farce.
Briers also provided the voice for the character of Fiver in the animated feature Watership Down (1978).
After a long career in popular television, Briers joined Kenneth Branagh's Renaissance Theatre Company in 1987, and his career moved on to major classical roles.'

I know many here are fans of British TV and of ‘Britcoms’, and I am not sure whether The Good Life is one of the loved Britcoms, but I thought I would post the sad news of Briers’s death in case it was.
Watership Down is a wonderful film and I recommend it. And the original Richard Adams book.
Wonderful actor. Once got to sit next to him at a luncheon in NYC. Wonderful man as well. I’ll miss him.
It was called “The Good Neighbors” in America - and was vastly popular. My brother still has a thing for Felicity Kendal (Barbara).
As a long-time fan of the Britcoms, I remember Briers fondly. I wasn’t aware he was on “Doctor Who” at one time.
And I remember “The Good Life”, too. Especially his co-star, Felicity “Rear Of The Year” Kendall... ;)
Lucky you. Yes, he seemed like an actor with no pretensions.

RIP.
I just watched an old episode of “the good life” last night.
RIP
I find it interesting that TV shows starring normal people yesterday, are suddenly old and dead a day later it seems. (timewarp) (time space continuum) (while there is time)
In the future, there will be “time no longer” Rev. 10:6
I take issue on that subject with those who think this is a mistranslation. It refers to the end of time reconing of this world and the return to eternity as functional reality.
IMHO anyway.
Bardolph & Leonato ping....
RIP
One of the few books I ever read twice. About 40 yrs ago.
“Ah, Felicity Kendal....”
Felicity, “the thinking man’s crumpet”, as she was once described.
We enjoyed “Good neighbors” immensely. That was also the show which gave Penelope Keith her start, IIRC.
An elderly Richard Briers was in a recent episode of something we watched on Netflix.... “Kingdom”, maybe??
I remember that vote! She’s so cute.
He had come to New York with the play “The Chairs,” with Geraldine McElwen (pardon my spelling!) It was a brilliant, moving production, and my private theatrical club invited them back for dinner. Sitting with those two great actors was a humbling experience. And yet, they were so pleasant!
Back in the 80s
He played a baddie. Could you tell?
Large Ham performance - of William Shantner or BRIAN BLESSED levels
