“Are you OK with me getting the amounts I and my employer put in, without any interest?”
I would be, if you weren’t instead TAKING it from my kids. They money that you and your employer ‘put in’ was spent the day it came in. The money that you want now is from MY KIDS, and I get a bit angry about that.
So you’re suggesting we send you our SS checks?
“So youre suggesting we send you our SS checks?”
If you’re working, no. I’m saying that you need to find a way to pay for your retirement, rather than have the government POINT A GUN at my kids and demand tribute to you.
So, maybe if you didn’t look out for your retirement, have your kids help out.
If we could do it over again, and your generation wanted to spend tons of money, you should have taxed yourself for that money, rather than cleaning out your so-called (government) retirement accounts. But you didn’t do that - and it is NOT the fault of my kids.
In any ponzi scheme you have to get in early to benifit!!!
Keepp paying sucker!
“In any ponzi scheme you have to get in early to benifit!!! Keepp paying sucker!”
Yea, that seems to be the message on this thread. Unfortunately, my kids are pretty darn MAD about that message, and they are NOT alone.
Things will change...one way or another...as they are in Japan already, where they are sick of the same scam:

Let me ask this one more time....
Are you saying I should not collect Soc Sec?
or
collect and give the money to somebody who is still working?

I’m saying that the cycle of dependency on future generations needs to be broken. As to your personal case, that’s a moral decision. If you feel entitled to the earnings of my kids, you have the power of the government to extract that money from them. So I guess my family is stuck with that.
Hopefully this ends some day, and it will, probably due to the country going bankrupt over it (and p.s., my kids won’t appreciate that either).
After I collect the quarter mil plus I have in the game, I’ll start examining my conscience. Assuming I live that long...
“After I collect the quarter mil plus I have in the game, Ill start examining my conscience. Assuming I live that long...”
Yep...I don’t expect to sway anyone here. But hopefully this system will get fixed at some point.
And therein lies the problem, doesn't it? The only way to end this scheme is to stop adding people to the system. This would, naturally, create a rapid and cumulative shortfall in revenue that would have to be made up from other taxes, effectively reversing the flow of money that for decades went from Social Security to the general fund.
Unfortunately the only way that could possibly be achieved is by massive cuts to most government programs and eliminating the purely welfare portions of Social Security like SSDI. We would also need a government that actually understood how to grow an economy and thereby grow the tax base. Alas, recent elections have not been encouraging on this front.
“...you are no different than those moms in LaHood.”
I give up.
true. the evils of the welfare state are myriad
Also, this was planned for a time when, after retiring at 65, people lived at the most 10 more years.
now, many live for another 30 years
So, the retirement age needs to go up to pay for this
And, of course, there are less kids, hence less payers-in
Government used your money for other things and it's gone
Folks in their 40s to 60s today will be the ones most hit when the welfare state collapses soon.
Thanks, that seems to get lost in the discussion.
These people mean well...but the power of the government to distort values is simply too strong. For some people, the government was simply able to break up families - but for others, it took much longer, but eventually the government got to them.
They just keep grinding at societal values, and they always win.
Pay me back what I’ve dumped into school taxes the last 15 years and we can talk.
“Pay me back what Ive dumped into school taxes the last 15 years and we can talk.”
Same here. My kids never spent A SINGLE DAY in public school. But one difference, the schools are not stealing money from my kids (and their future kids), like you guys are with Social Security.
I paid the money into the schools, I had some control over what I paid. If I wanted to pay less, I could have lived in a cheaper house, or one with a bigger garage or basement (they’re not taxed as much). Or I could have voted or run for office. My kids never had those chances with SS, they are simply stuck paying tribute to you guys, likely for their entire working lives.
First off asshole, I’m not retired. I work every day, have my entire life, and now pay DOUBLE Since I’m self employed. No one ever gave me a chance not to pay. Oh I could have not worked or left the country. But since I’ve been forced to pay I have this quant notion that I should get some return. So until the collapse, I guess your precious little snowflakes will get to pony up too. If they don’t like it tell them to sit on welfare or leave for greener pastures. And to prevent further heartburn on your part, don’t have anymore crotch fruit to avoid the reality of life.
What you said! You get it. Some people can’t get it through their thick heads that we have also paid in with no say in the matter, and for half of my working years it was the only game in town, no IRAs, 401s, no other choices. If taking a monthly disbursement from what was supposed to be my SS account makes me a thief, then I guess I have to plead guilty.
“First off asshole...”
You do realize that you now are no different than the inner city people that you no-doubt complain about. That is what welfare does to people.
I wish you the best, but I do hope you understand that you have NO CREDIBILITY complaining about the takers in “the hood”, as long as you are taking from others.
It took 70 years, but FDR has won...
