I remember Granpaw placing me on his knee while he shot them skeet and Granmaw used to fuss that I would put my eye out.
Other great moments of continual fun were the never ending snipe hunts. It was always a thrill when you got to hold the bag. I remember one time when it was my turn to hold the bag that after 4 hours I went back to the ice hut and granpaw must have been drilling for oil or water as he was laying on top of granmaw and moving around like one of those roadside oil thingies.
Granpaw used to have me do some great things like fetch a bucket of elbow grease.
It seems now that all they were trying to do was get rid of me so Granpaw could continue searching for oil or something.
I continued the ‘games’ while in San Diego as we used to go on ‘The Strand’, build a big campfire and lay down blankets for the ‘grunion run’.
Imagine my surprise when I found out there really were grunion that thrust themselves on the beach.
I thought it was like a Snipe Hunt and I would get to drill for oil or something.
