It was Lincoln who said "Give me a general who will fight!" That was after the North was defeated over and over again by Robert E. Lee's smaller and more agile armies. Lincoln's first generals fought desperately hard, but not hard enough to win. In the upshot, the Civil War dragged out to became our bloodiest war ever, 600,000 dead -- mostly white folks. And yes, it was triggered by Christian Abolitionists who made slavery morally intolerable to half the nation.
Lincoln was therefore forced to find generals who would fight, and he found Sherman and Grant, who wreaked terrible destruction on the South. He could see no alternative.
Soldiers who survived the Civil War lived with their painful wounds for the rest of their lives. They had no modern painkillers, no antibiotics, just liquor, morphine and silent suffering. Fifty years after the Civil War, Oliver Wendell Holmes still ached from his near-fatal war injuries.
In stark contrast to Lincoln, who demanded to know the truth, Obama is now firing our most successful fighting general -- for telling the truth.
That's really all we need to know.
Mr. Obama likes to compare himself to Lincoln, but baby, he ain't no Lincoln! Not even a Ford. Not even a Prius.
Martin Luther King was genuinely like Lincoln, because he knowingly risked his life for a cause greater than himself. And like Lincoln, Dr. King was martyred.
Real human progress comes hard, very hard.
There are heroes in the world. Most of humanity doesn't come close. Compared to Dr. King and Abe Lincoln, Obama is a hollow man, clinging to a faith outworn.
General James Mattis is being fired for insisting on complete contingency planning, according to Pentagon reporter Tom Ricks. Truth-telling isn't welcome in this administration, and that means big trouble...

“And yes, it was triggered by Christian Abolitionists who made slavery morally intolerable to half the nation.”
Uh, no. It was triggered by a rebel attack on a federal installation.
Slavery IS morally intolerable.
The Federals had been invited to leave by the sovereign state of South Carolina.
South Carolina had no sovereignty over Fort Sumter.
And still doesn’t by the way. Interesting how that all worked out, huh?

Don’t forget Democrat party US Army General George B. McClellan in that equation. He wanted to replace Lincoln as president, and didn’t actually want to fight the Confederates, so endlessly delayed and screwed around. He also made his contempt of Lincoln well known, and was often insubordinate to him.
He wanted to negotiate with the Confederacy, not fight them.
When Lincoln fired him, he became the unsuccessful Democratic Party nominee opposing Lincoln in the 1864 presidential election, on a peace platform.
Don’t you know that once a state agreed to be in the union it had to bow down to the feds whenever ordered to do so? sarc
In any event, the description of Mattis vs. Grand and Sherman is appropriate.
You do know that all those soldiers fighting for the South owned slaves. And the war started AFTER Lincoln freed them right after he was sworn in. If he hadn’t done that, there wouldn’t have been a war. After they were freed a bunch of ‘em in South Carolina took refuge in a Fort Sumwhere. So, their owners attacked the fort to try and get ‘em back.
Too bad Sherman’s Army wasn’t filled with Homo’s and women on his march to the Sea.
He would never have reached Atlanta.
“Obama wants to withdraw from the world”? Nope. He’s sending a brigade of Infantry to Africa. Patriot missiles to Turkey. Oh, he’s cutting the military, but that doesn’t mean he’s bringing them home. And now, he can build additional legions from the millions of Amazon warriors clamoring to serve him in our nation’s Infantry.
History has yet to determine if islam is "a faith outworn".
Winning doesn’t make one right.
So you must be loving our new Lincoln eh?
If your boss demands loyalty, give him honesty. If your boss demands honesty, give him loyalty. - Col. John Boyd
Democrats have always been the party of destruction and division. When Obama praises the Republican Lincoln it makes me cringe. I suspect 9/10 college graduates think Lincoln was a Democrat.
It depends what college. In a lot of colleges, they think the two greatest US presidents were George Kennedy and George S. Patton.
(I am only half kidding here. The board game Trivial Pursuit asked the question: “How many former US presidents are not buried in the US?” (To which the correct response was the current living ex-presidents.) But the most common wrong answer was George S. Patton.)
Was that before or after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
