'Vandalism in the UK is falling at a quicker rate than almost any other type of crime, according to official figures. What are the possible reasons behind this?'

It must be those wonderful gun laws working so well/sarc
The magic markers have become expensive and unaffordable. So has paint.
It’s just a gateway crime with no payoff.
Everything worth breaking is already broken?
Nothing left to break?
One longshot point in the article is that they don’t put lead in petrol any more.
Another is that smartphone sales to yobs has gone up, and the yobs (Brit for yoot) are busy playing games on the phones.
The yobs are probably playing PC and console games, too.
Overall a very interesting article, thanks for posting.
Maybe because you can’t vandalize an already-vandalized wall with “allah akbar” on it..
Because the police won’t take reports and people have given up trying to report it?
Why would anyone with an IQ above 30 believe anything from the commies at the BBC?
BBC is drooling ape news.
There’s nothing left to vandalize. You can only smash up a bus stop so much.
LOL - Ding ding ding - we have a winnah!
Demographics.
There's some persuasive evidence that correlates the removal of lead from gasoline in the US with the sudden drop in crime rates from 1991 to today; it matches perfectly with the first teenagers who didn't grow up with leaded gas. And areas that still have high crime (inner cities) are the areas that still have a lot of lead exposure from paint and lead in the soil from high traffic in the roads around them.
Because the general public has learned that reporting vandalism results in hours of wasted time and a council order to clean it up or face a fine. The number of acts hasn’t diminished, just the mechanism that used to record it.
Ah, the hazards of not reading the article. The decline is from randomized polling of the public, not by numbers of reported vandalism crimes to the police.
Cue the aliens guy. I’m sure he can give us the straight skinny on the cause!
I’m 80.
My generation grew up with lead all over the place.
Our crime rates were low.
.
The fallacy with the lead exposure argument is Why have murder rates in Chicago not fallen like rates in NYC and other cities?
