The Economy Almost Always Does Worse During A President's Second Term

The Economist
January 21, 2013

The economic performance of American presidents tends to deteriorate during their second term

THE economic auguries for Barack Obama’s second term are not good. By comparing the changes across eight economic indicators (GDP, industrial production, household incomes, house prices, unemployment, consumer confidence, stockmarkets and federal debt) during their presidential terms, The Economist has analysed the economic performance of all 11 two-term presidents since Teddy Roosevelt took office in September 1901. The first chart below shows that the average change in each of these economic indicators. With the exception of federal debt, which rises at a slower rate than in the first term, on average, all these indicators deteriorate. The economic performance of the 11 two-term presidents worsens by some 4.2 percentage points on average in their second terms compared with their first.

And, so. The excuses for his miserable non-performance are already being formulated. If his constituency had enough smarts to read, maybe they would even raise and eyebrow.

As it is, their EBTS, EITC, WICs, TANF, Section 8, SSI, SSDI, ObamaPhones, and all the dozens of other programs seem to be the “Obama Beer Goggles.”

It is incredible that they even still feel the need to make excuses for him. They are so invested in the lies, why cloud all that up with events and outcomes - just friggin lie like you always do.

It’s pathetic and his enablers all know how incompetent he is. Why would they lie for him for the past 6 years or so, if they thought he was capable of standing on his own two feet?

I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know he is incompetent. He believes all the lies told by his enablers, and some of them must be laughing behind his back about what a dunce he is. The rest of them are as stupid as he is, and as dishonest, and all of them think they are the second coming.

I mean, who can really take seriously the halo pictures? It’s a giant joke (on the American people who voted for him) and we need to point that out.

How can anyone take seriously a man who compares himself, on various occasions, to Lincoln, to Roosevelt, to any number of people who actually had accomplishments in their bios?

Oh great. That's all we need. Over half the population is begging the government for food already.
Oboma is going to do even worse than he has already? Is that even possable? People are digging fox holes in their back yards for gosh sakes!

I honestly don’t know how it all is hidden from him, whether he is smart enough to know and doesn’t care because of his rabid ideology, or if he’s just plain dumb.

Somebody told him way back when to vote “present” so they’ve been at this a long time. Somebody wrote those books for him, and he’s obviously read them because he’s narrated at least one.

All I do know is that he represents the epitome of what I’d call evil for evil’s sake. To tear down, humiliate, rule and control.

We’ve seen the likes of this kind before - Hitler, Mussolini (his mentor it seems), Stalin, and even Idi Amin if you want to get sub-Saharan....

In the end, I do believe he isn’t anything special in the intelligence department. I think the Democrat party and probably some other unknown group has prepped him all his life. An extremely strong Muslim influence coupled with some very close familial America-hating going on.

If you combine this with the sad state of entitlements, appeasement for past transgressions, limp-wristed Republican Congressional and Senatorial management of our collective futures, and you have one big hate America - destroy America party going on.

God help us.

Why am I inclined to call bullShiite on these charts? Maybe it's because I am struggling to understand what could make Obama be on par with Reagan when nearly every single one of the measures for the chart (GDP, industrial production, household incomes, house prices, unemployment, consumer confidence, stockmarkets and federal debt) have been dismal under Obama?

GDP is anemic.
Incomes are down.
Yes, house prices are down, but that's because the economy is in the tank! Many people would see that as bad news, not good.
Unemployment is the same as when he took office but that's only because over 8 million people have left the workforce!
The stock market is up only because of quantitative easing! We have yet to feel the end result of that policy.
I would think the increase in federal debt alone would outweigh any of the other stats.

I think the numbers are massaged.....or at the least not a good yardstick. Obama is not on par with Reagan. Bush should be WAY ahead of Obama.

Seriously: compare the economy during the Bush years as compared to the last four! I would take any four years of the Bush economy over the last four!

We will never make it to 2016 without a worldwide economic collapse. I think 2014 is iffy.

A one second glance at these charts tells you they are nothing but leftist Bullc*rap.

Blam, your killing us hear putting this letist pablum on parade -- lol.

Seriously, I now have no doubt that TBI is a far-left site. Their articles have no relation to reality-- just propaganda.

I will not waste my time looking at the methodology used to create these charts. It's probably the same used to create climate models :)

I just received an email from the National Right to Work group, saying that Mitch McConnell has been conducting closed door negotiations with Harry Reid to gut the filibuster. If McConnell caves on the filibuster, the Republicans may as well give up.
