Today's Washington Post editorial clings to the liberal anti-gun rights view that only the government should have access to "military weapons," by which of course they mean semiautomatic "assault rifles" like the AR-15. Of course, government corruption and incompetence has long been an avenue by which criminals have obtained weapons, the Fast & Furious gunrunning scandal being an instructive case in point.
But alas, the drug-running scandal was curious missing from the January 11 editorial in which the Post argued that in addition to an assault weapons ban, the U.S. government needs to crack down on international gun-smuggling, particularly on the Mexican border:
The White House would be wise to consider at least two other measures that polls suggest enjoy public support.

International gun-running is ESSENTIAL to keep revolutions against established governments and civil order in play. It is through just such ferment and unrest that the most radical of state-imposed control may be extended to those countries that choose to not change their form of government into either a theocratic Islamic state under Shari’a law, or to a total command economy, which are not mutual exclusives at all.
The assault on the compound at Benghazi was just a notification that it is no longer necessary to run guns into Libya, and that to divert some of these weapons to the rebel forces in Syria would not be acceptable. Libyan rebels get to KEEP all the munitions and war material that was originally given them, let there be another source for what is going into Syria.
The Current Regime in the White Hut has been quick to comply. A little TOO quick, smoe might say.
Has anyone yet published a list of known F&F conspirators and their immediate supervisors, who will be subject to indictment and prosecution when the Just Us Department is no longer controlled by a corrupt Attorney General?
I think that publishing such a list would go far to increase the stress level of such people.
