Jags new GM really said it (twice), no interest in Tim Tebow

Blaine Gabbert will be part of the Jaguars’ quarterback competition next summer. Tim Tebow will not.

That was the word from the Jaguars new general manager Dave Caldwell, who has been given by a free hand by owner Shad Khan to make all football decisions. Caldwell was introduced to the media on Thursday and when asked about Tebow, closed the door on bringing in the Jacksonville native.

“As far as Tim goes, he is a member of the New York Jets. I can’t imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar,’’ he said. When asked to repeat that statement, he did.

Caldwell was then asked if that meant even if Tebow is released by the Jets. “Even if he is released,’’ Caldwell replied. “I have others in mind and I’m comfortable with what’s here.’’

That should end the seemingly endless speculation that Tebow was going to wind up playing for his hometown team. ESPN even reported recently that it was a “virtual certainty’’ that Tebow would be playing for the Jaguars next season.I

Your embrace of nonexistant ‘facts’ is the constant in your posting history. This thread is no exception.

Yawn. You got anything to actually ADD to the conversation, or you just gonna whine because I’m not kissing Tebow’s butt? The facts are there, his stats stink, those are facts, real fact, actual facts, confirm-able facts, not “facts”. You might find them inconvenient, but that’s your problem. Now comeback with facts, or go away. don’t care which, but every time you chose to just complain about me you prove me right.

Very possible. Someone might give him a shot, but there are some things working against him right now:

1)He is still convinced he can be a starting, franchise quarterback somewhere and really won’t be happy with anything less. It’s fine to show up at camp and compete for the job, but a backup has to be happy being a backup. Tebow is not in that place right now.

2)He is just marginally talented enough, combined with a truly winning personality, to continually be a ‘fan favorite’ type of player. Those type of folks end up creating position controversies no matter where they go.

3)The spotlight is a big problem. Fair or not, Tebow is not a starting caliber QB and he gets way too much media attention for a back up. Worse, much of the coverage is about his religious and personal life rather than even being about football. That would inevitably cause disruptions for any team he goes to. Just look at this thread, Tebow has a fan base that believes he is being aggrieved. Half of these people probably don’t know anything about NFL football, but they’ve convinced themselves that Tim is being persecuted because of his faith. Teams don’t like that kind of controversy and might shy away from taking a chance on someone with a built in storyline like that.

All true. But you also have to remember there’s coaches and GMs that think highly of themselves. And there’s actually a serious lack of midrange QB talent in the league right now, so there’s a lot of openings.

My current prediction is he lands in KC. Reid likes scrambling QBs, he likes “rescue” projects, he actually managed to squeeze 1 good year out of Vick (who has most of the same problems as Tebow plus a raft of character and work ethic issue), and with all of his issue Tebow might actually be an upgrade to their QB situation. The only negative on that I can see is that KC kicked his butt so I don’t know if he has any following there. And Brady Quinn could be driven to drink if he gets stuck in the Tebow circus again.

The only facts that are out there are that TT did the best that could be done on two teams that have porous offensive lines, and mediocre receivers.

Oh, there is one more fact; one that I’m sure pleases your kind: The Mediots hate TT, and have demanded his failure and ouster for his politically incorrect embrace of what this country was founded on.

The current fact is that you apparently have an axe to grind against me for some reason because I’m by no means the only person here pointing out Tebow’s flaws but I am the only one you’re going after personally. Don’t know why, don’t actually care.

Meanwhile back in NFL fact drive world Tebow is a bad QB and none of your complaining moves his completion percentage above 50.

Interesting stuff. I hope you are right and he does get picked up by someone. The NY market definitely seemed wrong to me for a guy like Tebow. Perhaps being in KC and out of the big spotlight might be just the thing he needs.

Actually it shows your point is wrong. Because you’re not paying attention to NFL talk, you’re only paying attention to talk about Tebow. So subsequently EVERYTHING you hear about Tebow you don’t hear about anybody else because you’re not paying attention to talk about anybody else

Thanks for straightening me out on what I read and hear. I'll just ignore the overabundance of evidence in the media from now on.

Of course the bad news then is he’s stuck with Reid, an overrated coach who called 80% passes and never bothers to pick up valid starting receivers for his overworked QBs to throw to. But he’s in the league and has a chance to show some talent in what’s probably the last year of his contract (can’t remember if he signed for more than the usual 4) and we’ll see what happens.

I just can’t understand why the Jets did not let him play once their season was done, and Sanchez was clearly as bad as everyone was accusing Tebow to be.

Seriously editor? You don't know what you're talking about here.....again. It seems like every thread I see you on you're spouting ignorant gibberish. You do NOT know better than 32 NFL franchises' scouts, GM's and coaches.

There are lots of Christians in the league that are highly successful. Tebow is not being persecuted because of his religion, he is struggling in the league because he isn't very good at the QB position.

The Mediots hate TT, and have demanded his failure and ouster for his politically incorrect embrace of what this country was founded on.

This is just a big pile of overheated stupid.

I’m just going by what you said. Everything else is just running a simple logical syllogism. If you don’t pay attention to what goes on in the NFL (your words) then you don’t hear the discussions about other QBs specifically their mechanics.

If you want to look at the overabundance of evidence in the media pay attention to what they’re saying about people not named Tebow. Look up Jay Cutler, they brutalize Cutler, he can do no right, he’s too emotional, he’s not emotional enough, he plays when he’s too hurt and damages the team, he doesn’t play with pain. The guy can do no right, he could rescue kittens from a burning building and the sports press would tell him he did it wrong. Wanna see discussions of mechanics look up Byron Leftwich. Look up stuff from early this season on Peyton Manning when they were still not sure he should be back. Look up any time Jaws discusses any QB, he only talks about mechanics and reading defenses.

The only one I see stirring muck is you. Everybody else is discussing their interpretations of available fact, you want a flame war. Though I will agree with the lost cause part.

Go ahead and enlighten us all about the reasons they left. Don’t turn your argument into a pretzel trying to write around the fact there were less than 26000 fans at their last game in LA. To me, the fact they both left is LA would not provide the level amenities they wanted so they went where somewhere else.

Be fair, two of three comments were correct. So they have a smaller seating stadium then about 75% of the NFL. They also are supported by a much smaller local population then most of the rest of the teams too.

That "fact" is out there, alright. The real facts (available at http://www.nfl.com/teams/profile?team=DEN) are that Denver's offensive line (except for the center, who lost his starting position this year after being injured before game 5) and recievers (except for Stokley, a distant third in yards) are EXACTLY the same this year as last ... yet this year's QB has a 68.6% completion rate and a 105.8 passer rating, as compared to 46.5% and 72.9 for Tebow.

One more time and I'm done. My point was never that other players don't get rough treatment from the sports media or the fantasy football crowd, as you are implying.

My point is an unusual number of journalists, and certain other commentators, seem to delight criticizing the guy all out of proportion to his flaws as a player.

Thats not worshiping Tim Tebow, its acknowledging reality.

My personal opinion is its not directed so much at the player as it is those who admire him. Some kinda weird passive agressive thing.

And my point is that if you don’t pay attention to the NFL how could you know that? It would be like me saying Tiger Woods gets too much positive coverage, I don’t pay attention to golf I have no idea who’s getting what coverage in the golf journalism world. The coverage I see of Tebow is generally positive, yeah his stats stink, but the journalists generally seem to like him. They’d prefer to have something other than flaws to talk about, but his body of work doesn’t allow for that.
